Align your credentials to Apple's hardware stack
Apple's Development Engineer roles frequently require domain-specific depth in areas like silicon validation, process integration, or failure analysis. Before applying, map your degree and project experience directly to the hardware discipline listed in the job description, not just a general engineering background.
Target roles that match your visa category
Apple sponsors multiple visa types for this function, including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. If you're on OPT, apply to roles with a projected start date that gives STEM OPT extension lead time, since hardware engineering roles at Apple typically qualify under eligible STEM CIP codes.
Search verified Development Engineer openings on Migrate Mate
Filter by Apple and the Electronics and Hardware industry on Migrate Mate to surface Development Engineer roles that have a confirmed sponsorship track record. This saves time you'd otherwise spend cold-applying to roles where visa support is unclear.
Prepare for Apple's hardware-focused technical interviews
Apple's Development Engineer hiring process emphasizes hands-on problem-solving in areas like circuit debugging, DFT, or process yield analysis. Build a portfolio of relevant project outcomes and be ready to walk through failure modes and your specific engineering decisions in detail.
Confirm LCA filing before your start date
For H-1B and E-3 transfers to Apple, your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before the I-129 petition goes to USCIS. Follow up with your HR contact to confirm the LCA is certified and posted, since hardware org onboarding timelines can move faster than legal processing.
Request a specialty occupation support letter early
USCIS scrutinizes whether Development Engineer positions qualify as specialty occupations. Ask Apple's immigration team early in the offer process to confirm they'll provide a detailed support letter tying your specific role requirements to a directly related degree field, which reduces RFE risk considerably.

Find Development Engineer at Apple JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Development Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Development Engineers. The company works with in-house immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions and has a well-established process for this role type. Because Development Engineer positions require specialized technical degrees in fields like electrical engineering or materials science, they typically satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements without significant complications.
How do I apply for Development Engineer jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers site at jobs.apple.com. Search by job function and filter for hardware or engineering disciplines. You can also browse verified Development Engineer openings at Apple that have a confirmed sponsorship history through Migrate Mate. Tailor your resume to the specific hardware domain in each listing, since Apple's Development Engineer roles span a wide technical range.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Development Engineer roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Development Engineers, along with immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards. Australian citizens often use the E-3, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewable status. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles may use TN status, which can be issued at the port of entry.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Development Engineer positions?
Apple's Development Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field. Roles in silicon validation or process integration often expect hands-on lab experience, familiarity with yield analysis or DFT methodologies, and proficiency with relevant EDA or measurement tools. Advanced degrees can strengthen both your application and your visa petition, particularly for EB-2 filings.
How do I think about the timeline from job offer to starting at Apple on a work visa?
For H-1B transfers or new cap-exempt filings, USCIS standard processing runs several months, though premium processing can reduce that to roughly 15 business days. E-3 and TN applicants can sometimes start faster since those visas can be obtained at consulates or ports of entry. Apple's immigration team typically initiates the LCA with DOL as soon as an offer is accepted, so respond quickly to any documentation requests to avoid delays in your start date.
