Frame your credentials for U.S. specialty occupation
Development Manager roles at Michael Baker International require demonstrating that your degree directly supports a specialty occupation. If your credentials are from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from NACES-approved evaluators before applying so your qualifications translate cleanly.
Target infrastructure-heavy practice areas first
Michael Baker International concentrates its Development Manager hiring in transportation, federal, and environmental consulting. Tailoring your application to one of these practice areas signals genuine alignment and increases your odds of reaching a hiring manager who controls sponsorship decisions.
Clarify sponsorship eligibility before your first interview
Development Manager hiring at consulting firms often moves faster than the sponsorship conversation. Ask directly whether the role is open to H-1B transfers or new cap-subject petitions in the first recruiter call, not after an offer is in hand.
Understand how LCA filing affects your start date
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. For Development Manager roles, this step can add two to four weeks to your timeline. Build that window into any offer negotiation.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Confirming which consulting firms are actively filing for Development Manager roles saves you from applying to employers who won't sponsor. Use Migrate Mate to filter open positions at companies with a documented sponsorship track record in professional services.
Request an employer-of-record clarification if subsidiaries are involved
Michael Baker International operates across multiple entities and joint ventures. The legal employer on your I-129 petition must match the entity extending your offer. Confirm this early with HR, since a mismatch requires refiling and delays your start date.

Find Development Manager at Michael Baker International JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Development Managers?
Yes, Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas for Development Manager positions. The company operates across infrastructure consulting verticals where specialized expertise is required, and sponsorship is a standard part of their international hiring. If you're cap-subject, timing your application around the April USCIS lottery window is essential. H-1B transfers for candidates already holding valid status are also a common path into the company.
Which visa types are commonly used for Development Manager roles at Michael Baker International?
H-1B is the most common visa for Development Manager roles, given the specialty occupation requirements in engineering and consulting. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. F-1 OPT and CPT can cover early-career candidates transitioning from graduate programs, and Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is available for longer-tenure employees pursuing permanent residence.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Development Manager roles at Michael Baker International?
Michael Baker International typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, construction management, urban planning, or a closely related field for Development Manager positions. Several years of project or business development experience in infrastructure consulting is standard. Professional licensure such as a PE credential is valued in technical practice areas. Client-facing experience and familiarity with federal or municipal procurement processes strengthens your application significantly.
How do I apply for Development Manager jobs at Michael Baker International?
You can browse and apply for Development Manager openings at Michael Baker International directly through their careers portal. To filter specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate lists verified positions at companies with documented sponsorship history, including Michael Baker International. Apply with a resume that highlights project scope, client relationships, and any infrastructure consulting specialization relevant to the practice area you're targeting.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Development Manager offer at Michael Baker International?
From offer acceptance to work authorization, timing depends on your current visa status. An H-1B transfer for someone already in valid status can be completed in as little as two to three weeks with premium processing through USCIS. A new cap-subject H-1B requires winning the April lottery, meaning you could wait until October 1 for your start date. Your employer must also complete DOL Labor Condition Application certification before any petition is filed.
