Align your credentials to engineering consulting standards
Michael Baker International prioritizes PMP certification and engineering licensure for Project Manager roles. Get your credentials evaluated by a NACES-approved organization before applying so your foreign degree maps clearly to U.S. equivalency standards.
Target roles tied to federal infrastructure contracts
Michael Baker's Project Manager openings are heavily concentrated in transportation, defense, and government infrastructure. These project types have longer contract cycles, which gives the company stronger business justification for pursuing H-1B sponsorship and PERM filings.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Project Manager roles by sponsorship history
Not every Project Manager posting at Michael Baker leads to sponsorship. Migrate Mate lets you filter and identify which roles and locations have active sponsorship track records, so you apply where your visa situation is already expected.
Ask about LCA filing timelines before accepting an offer
Michael Baker must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition can proceed. Confirm internally whether the hiring team has initiated this step, since LCA approval typically takes seven business days and delays can push your start date.
Position OPT or CPT as a bridge to full sponsorship
If you're on F-1 status, Michael Baker has hired through OPT and CPT for Project Manager functions. Frame your visa timeline explicitly in conversations with recruiters so they understand sponsorship isn't immediate and your current authorization covers the gap.
Factor in PERM requirements if targeting a Green Card pathway
Project Manager roles at consulting firms like Michael Baker can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, but PERM requires documented recruitment. Ask your hiring contact early whether the firm has initiated PERM for this role category before, not after, you accept an offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Project Managers?
Yes, Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas for Project Manager roles, particularly in transportation, infrastructure, and government services consulting. Sponsorship is most common for roles tied to long-term federal or state contracts, where the company has a clear business need to retain specialized talent. Confirm sponsorship availability directly with the recruiter for the specific position you're targeting.
How do I apply for Project Manager jobs at Michael Baker International?
Apply through Michael Baker International's careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse their open Project Manager roles filtered by sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your application to highlight relevant engineering or consulting project experience, PMP certification if you hold it, and any sector-specific background in transportation, defense, or civil infrastructure. Mentioning your visa status early in the process helps recruiters route your application correctly.
Which visa types does Michael Baker International commonly use for Project Manager roles?
Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for Project Manager hires, but also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for early-career candidates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, and J-1 visa for certain exchange positions. For candidates seeking permanent residence, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways are available, typically initiated after an employee is established in the role.
What qualifications does Michael Baker International expect for Project Manager roles?
Most Project Manager openings require a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or environmental engineering, or a related technical field, along with several years of project delivery experience in consulting or government contracting. PMP certification strengthens your application significantly. For H-1B purposes, your degree must align directly with the specialty occupation requirements USCIS uses to evaluate the position.
How do I time my application if I'm on OPT and need H-1B sponsorship?
The H-1B cap opens for registration in early March each year, with an October 1 start date if selected. If your OPT expires before October 1, STEM OPT extension can bridge the gap, giving you up to 24 additional months of work authorization. Start conversations with Michael Baker recruiters at least six months before your OPT end date so there's enough runway for the petition process.
