Align your credentials with NEPA project work
Michael Baker International wins federal and state infrastructure contracts that require NEPA documentation and environmental permitting. Tailor your resume to show direct experience with environmental impact assessments, Section 106 reviews, or agency coordination on public-sector projects.
Target roles tied to active contracts
Consulting firms like Michael Baker staff Environmental roles against specific project awards. Search for recent DOT, Army Corps, or federal agency contract wins in their portfolio and apply when headcount demand is highest, not just when a generic opening appears.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline upfront
If you're on F-1 OPT, your STEM extension window matters to the hiring manager. Be prepared to confirm your authorization end date and whether your environmental degree qualifies for a 24-month STEM OPT extension before the H-1B cap registration cycle in March.
Understand how LCA geography affects your offer
Michael Baker operates across multiple states. Your Labor Condition Application is tied to your worksite location, which affects the DOL prevailing wage your employer must meet. If you're placed on a remote or multi-site project, confirm which location governs your LCA filing.

Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Environmentals?
Yes, Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas for Environmental professionals. The company operates across federal and infrastructure consulting sectors where Environmental roles routinely qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. Which visa types are commonly used for Environmental roles at Michael Baker International?
H-1B is the primary work visa pathway for Environmental professionals at Michael Baker International. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying environmental and engineering disciplines, and J-1 for eligible exchange visitors. Longer-term sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card PERM labor certification is also part of their immigration support for retained employees.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Environmental roles at Michael Baker International?
Most Environmental positions require at minimum a bachelor's degree in environmental science, civil or environmental engineering, geology, or a closely related field. Project-specific roles in NEPA compliance, permitting, or remediation often expect two to five years of relevant consulting or agency experience. How do I time my application around the H-1B cap if I need sponsorship?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March for an October 1 start date. If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, aim to secure an offer by February so your employer can register you in time. Michael Baker sponsors TN and OPT extensions outside the cap cycle, which can bridge gaps.
