Obtain a Texas paraprofessional certification early
Texas requires Instructional Assistants in Title I schools to hold a paraprofessional certification or pass the ParaPro Assessment. Have this credential in hand before applying so Midland ISD's HR team sees you as hire-ready from day one.
Target Midland ISD's high-need campus openings
Midland ISD posts a substantial number of Instructional Assistant vacancies at any given time. Prioritize Title I and bilingual support positions, which face the most persistent staffing gaps and are where districts most commonly move forward with H-1B sponsorship.
Confirm H-1B specialty occupation framing with HR
Instructional Assistant roles can sometimes face USCIS scrutiny over specialty occupation status. During interviews, ask HR directly how they classify the position for H-1B purposes and whether they have prior approval history to support the petition.
Time your application around the H-1B cap window
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. For a school district role, align your job search so you have an offer by February or March, giving Midland ISD enough runway to file on time.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring school districts
Not every school district will sponsor H-1B visas for paraprofessional roles. Use Migrate Mate to identify and track Instructional Assistant openings at districts with a confirmed H-1B sponsorship history, so you're only applying where sponsorship is realistic.
Prepare bilingual credentials if you have them
Midland ISD serves a large Spanish-speaking student population. Bilingual Instructional Assistants are in high demand, and demonstrating Spanish proficiency or a bilingual education background meaningfully strengthens your case for sponsorship consideration.

Find Instructional Assistant at Midland Independent School District JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Midland Independent School District sponsor H-1B visas for Instructional Assistants?
Yes, Midland Independent School District has sponsored H-1B visas for Instructional Assistant roles. Sponsorship is not automatic for every opening, so you should confirm the district's willingness to sponsor during the interview process. Positions with bilingual or special education responsibilities tend to see stronger sponsorship consideration due to ongoing staffing shortages in those areas.
How do I apply for Instructional Assistant jobs at Midland Independent School District?
Applications go through the Midland ISD careers portal, where paraprofessional positions are listed by campus and specialty. You can also browse verified Instructional Assistant openings at Midland ISD through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where H-1B sponsorship has been used. Have your ParaPro Assessment score or Texas paraprofessional certification ready to upload with your application.
Which visa types are commonly used for Instructional Assistant roles at Midland Independent School District?
The H-1B is the primary nonimmigrant work visa used for Instructional Assistant positions at Midland ISD. Because the role requires at least an associate degree or equivalent paraprofessional credential under Texas law, it can qualify as a specialty occupation. TN and O-1 visas are not typically applicable to this role type.
What qualifications does Midland Independent School District expect for Instructional Assistant candidates?
Midland ISD generally requires at least 48 college credit hours or an associate degree, along with a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment for Title I campus roles. Bilingual candidates with Spanish proficiency are prioritized for many openings. Prior classroom or childcare experience strengthens your application, and a bachelor's degree in education or a related field supports H-1B specialty occupation classification.
How do I understand the H-1B filing timeline if I receive an offer from Midland Independent School District?
If your position is cap-subject, USCIS opens H-1B registration in March and requires petitions to be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. Midland ISD would need to work with an immigration attorney to file on your behalf. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a concurrent or transfer petition can begin as soon as you receive an offer.
