Align Your Credentials to Texas Requirements
Texas requires state-issued teacher certification for most classroom roles. Before applying, verify your foreign degree meets TEA's equivalency standards and that your subject-area certification aligns with the specific grade band MISD is hiring for.
Target High-Needs Subject Areas First
Public school districts are far more likely to sponsor visas in hard-to-fill subjects like special education, bilingual education, and secondary math or science. Focus your applications on MISD postings in those areas to maximize your sponsorship chances.
Confirm Sponsorship Willingness Before Accepting Interviews
MISD's HR department handles sponsorship decisions centrally, not at the campus level. Ask the district HR contact directly whether H-1B sponsorship is available for the specific role before investing time in the interview process.
Time Your Application Around the H-1B Cap
H-1B petitions for new employment are subject to the annual cap with a filing window that opens in April. Work backward from that date with your employer so the Labor Condition Application is filed with DOL and all paperwork is ready before USCIS begins accepting registrations.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open MISD Teaching Roles
Filter by employer and visa type on Migrate Mate to surface active Teaching openings at MISD that are open to H-1B candidates, saving you the time of manually screening hundreds of district postings for sponsorship eligibility.
Prepare Your Employment Eligibility Documents Early
MISD participates in E-Verify, so your work authorization must be verifiable from day one. Have your immigration documents, foreign credential evaluations, and Texas certification paperwork ready before your start date to avoid onboarding delays.

Find Teaching at Midland Independent School District JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Midland Independent School District sponsor H-1B visas for Teachers?
Yes, Midland Independent School District has sponsored H-1B visas for Teaching roles. Public school districts can file H-1B petitions as cap-subject employers, so sponsorship is tied to the annual April registration window. Your best path is to secure a conditional offer from MISD early in the calendar year so the district can meet that deadline.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching roles at Midland Independent School District?
The H-1B is the primary visa used for sponsored Teaching roles at MISD, as most classroom positions qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Teachers on J-1 exchange visitor status through a separate cultural exchange program sometimes also work in U.S. public schools, though that pathway runs through a designated sponsor organization rather than the district itself.
What qualifications are expected for Teaching jobs at Midland Independent School District?
MISD follows Texas Education Agency standards, so you'll need a valid Texas teaching certificate or eligibility for one, plus a bachelor's degree in your subject area. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency, typically through a NACES-member credential evaluation service. Subject-area proficiency exams like the TExES are also required before certification is issued.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Midland Independent School District?
You can browse open Teaching positions at MISD through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles open to visa-sponsored candidates. Once you identify a role, applications are submitted through MISD's district hiring portal. Be prepared to upload your resume, teacher certification documents, and foreign credential evaluation as part of the initial application. Campus-level interviews typically follow a district screening step.
How do I plan the timeline for H-1B sponsorship with a school district employer?
School district H-1B sponsorships involve two sequential filings: the Labor Condition Application with DOL, which takes seven business days or less, and the I-129 petition with USCIS. Because the H-1B cap registration opens in early April for an October 1 start date, you need a signed offer from MISD no later than February to give the district's legal team enough lead time. Starting conversations about sponsorship during fall and winter recruiting cycles is the most reliable approach.
