Essential Job Duties
The Department of Forest Biomaterials (FB) at NC State University is accepting applications for two open rank faculty positions (assistant, associate, or professor) in the field of sustainable materials and technology. We are seeking individuals who are interdisciplinary scholars and visionary leaders with a demonstrated record of success and impact and are internationally recognized as one of the best in sustainable materials and technology. The positions are a 9-month appointment with approximately 45% effort in research, 45% effort in teaching, and 10% effort in service.
The ranks considered for each position will be that of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor. Rank is determined based on the selected candidate’s record and impact within the sustainable materials and technology field. Additionally, there is an opportunity to be considered for the Stephen H. Conger Sr. Distinguished Fellow/Scholar/Professor in Sustainable Materials and Technology appointment. This appointment at the level of distinguished fellow, scholar or professor is at the discretion of the Chancellor.
Key responsibilities of the positions are as follows:
Teach two core classes annually in the Sustainable Materials and Technology program.
Advise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, supporting their career success.
Publish research articles in peer-reviewed journals and produce other scholarly products.
Develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program in areas such as:

Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D. in Forest Biomaterials, Wood Science and Engineering, Sustainable Packaging, or a related field. Candidates with degrees in Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Materials Engineering or candidates with impactful industry experience in biomaterials manufacturing and sustainable packaging are also encouraged to apply.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Ability to teach in the SWST Accredited Sustainable Materials and Technology program at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
Strong record of teaching and research in biomaterials manufacturing, composites, value-added fiber products, sustainable packaging materials and technologies, and AI applications.
Demonstrated leadership and commitment to academic excellence, student success, and professional development for undergraduate and graduate students through mentoring.
Ability to attract research funding from federal agencies, industrial partners, and other sources.
