Align Your Credentials to Specialty Occupation Standards
For H-1B sponsorship, your degree must directly relate to the instructional duties listed in the job posting. A degree in education, curriculum design, or a subject-specific field strengthens your petition. Gaps between your major and the role's requirements are common denial triggers.
Clarify Sponsorship Early in Hiring Conversations
University HR and individual departments handle sponsorship differently. Ask the hiring coordinator directly whether the role qualifies for institutional sponsorship before advancing to later interview rounds. Waiting until the offer stage creates avoidable delays.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter for Sponsoring Roles
Not every Instructional Assistant posting at University of Arizona will explicitly state visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to surface verified sponsoring roles at the university, filtered by your visa type, so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is confirmed.
Prepare for PERM Labor Market Testing If Pursuing a Green Card
University of Arizona can sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 Green Cards for qualifying instructional staff, but PERM requires DOL-supervised recruitment proving no qualified U.S. workers were displaced. This process typically takes 12 to 18 months before an I-140 petition can be filed.

Find Instructional Assistant at University of Arizona JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Arizona sponsor H-1B visas for Instructional Assistants?
Yes, University of Arizona sponsors H-1B visas for Instructional Assistant roles that qualify as specialty occupations, meaning the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. The university's international faculty and staff office manages the petition process. Not every Instructional Assistant posting will qualify, so confirming the role's eligibility with HR before accepting an offer is essential.
How do I apply for Instructional Assistant jobs at University of Arizona?
Applications go through the University of Arizona's official careers portal, where Instructional Assistant roles are listed by college and department. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse verified Instructional Assistant openings at the university filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your application to the specific academic department's needs, as requirements vary significantly across colleges.
Which visa types does University of Arizona commonly use for Instructional Assistant roles?
University of Arizona sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and J-1 visas for Instructional Assistant positions, depending on the candidate's nationality and role structure. F-1 OPT and CPT are also used for candidates still completing degree programs. E-3 visas apply only to Australian citizens, and TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupational categories.
What qualifications are expected for Instructional Assistant positions at University of Arizona?
Most Instructional Assistant roles require at minimum a bachelor's degree, and many positions within graduate programs or research-intensive departments expect a master's degree or active doctoral enrollment. Subject-matter expertise aligned with the department's curriculum is typically required, not just general teaching experience. Some postings also specify familiarity with specific learning management systems or instructional technologies used on campus.
How do I time my application given visa processing requirements?
Timing depends on your current visa status. H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date due to the cap and lottery. E-3 and TN visas can be processed closer to a start date, often within four to six weeks. If you're transitioning between statuses, confirm with the university's international office whether bridge employment authorization or a gap in work authorization applies to your situation.
