A full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the cancer immunology laboratory of Dr. Karen Hastings in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform independent multi-disciplinary research experiments under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Develop, design, and conduct complex research projects.
- Perform scientific data collections, reductions, and analyses involving routine procedures characterized by use of independent judgment.
- Foster collaborations within the Department and with other units across the University.
- Utilize molecular biology techniques, and perform immunoblotting, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry.
- Perform small animal surgery.
- Develop and maintain detailed records of experiments, analyzing and writing findings.
- Present results at laboratory meetings and conferences.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports.
- Develop and implement protocols as dictated by experimental results.
- May assist with supervision of laboratory staff.
- Oversee maintenance of hazardous/chemical waste records and disposal as needed.
- Additional duties may be assigned.

- Knowledge of coordinating experiments, and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
- Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.

- Demonstrated ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in immunology, cancer biology or related field of study.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Expertise with multicolor flow cytometry, adoptive T cell transfer, APC and T cell isolation from lymphoid organs and skin, and/or mouse models of autoimmunity and cancer.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques, such as RNA isolation, electrophoresis, and qRT-PCR.
- Expertise with immunological methods such as western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry analysis.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and analyses.
