Align your CV to U.S. academic standards
U.S. faculty CVs differ from international ones. Include your full publication list, grant history, teaching evaluations, and dissertation committee roles. University of Arizona hiring committees expect this format before advancing candidates to campus interviews.
Target departments with active doctoral programs
Departments that train PhD students have stronger incentives to recruit specialized faculty and more experience processing H-1B and permanent residency filings. At Arizona, colleges like Engineering, Public Health, and Sciences regularly post tenure-track openings with sponsorship.
Understand how J-1 affects your H-1B path
If you enter as a J-1 exchange visitor, a two-year home residency requirement may apply before you can switch to H-1B or Green Card. Confirm your J-1 program category with University of Arizona's international office before accepting any postdoctoral or visiting scholar offer.
Start your PERM labor certification early
For tenure-track roles leading to EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, PERM requires DOL to certify no qualified U.S. workers were available. University of Arizona typically initiates this only after tenure review milestones, so plan for a multi-year timeline from hire to Green Card.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Professor openings by visa type
Browsing broad job boards makes it hard to identify which Professor postings include sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter University of Arizona listings by visa category so you focus only on roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation before the offer
H-1B approval for Professor roles hinges on demonstrating the position requires a specific advanced degree. Gather your transcripts, foreign credential evaluations, and published work before you receive an offer so University of Arizona's HR team can file without delays.

Find Professor at University of Arizona JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Arizona sponsor H-1B visas for Professors?
Yes, University of Arizona sponsors H-1B visas for Professor roles. As a higher education institution, the university qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning it can file petitions at any time of year without being subject to the annual 85,000-slot lottery. This gives international faculty candidates a more predictable path to U.S. work authorization than most private-sector employers.
How do I apply for Professor jobs at University of Arizona?
Professor positions at University of Arizona are posted through the university's careers portal and typically require a cover letter, full academic CV, research statement, teaching philosophy, and writing samples. Most tenure-track searches also request contact information for three to five references. You can find open Professor listings filtered by visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which saves time compared to searching the university portal directly.
Which visa types does University of Arizona commonly use for Professor roles?
University of Arizona sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT or CPT for Professor and academic roles, as well as EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas for faculty on a path to permanent residency. J-1 is common for visiting scholars and postdocs, while H-1B is the standard route for tenure-track hires. E-3 applies exclusively to Australian citizens, and TN covers eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals.
What qualifications does University of Arizona expect for Professor positions?
Tenure-track Professor roles at University of Arizona require a completed doctoral degree in the relevant discipline, a record of peer-reviewed publication, and evidence of an active research agenda. Teaching experience at the university level is expected. Some departments in professional schools or clinical fields accept terminal professional degrees, such as an MFA or JD, in place of a PhD depending on the discipline.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Professor hire at University of Arizona?
H-1B processing for cap-exempt institutions like University of Arizona typically takes two to six months with standard USCIS processing. E-3 and TN approvals can be faster, sometimes completing at a consular appointment or port of entry. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship is a multi-year process and generally begins only after a faculty member establishes standing at the university, not at the point of initial hire.
