Align your credentials to U.S. academic standards
Universities evaluate foreign degrees carefully for faculty hiring. Have your transcripts assessed by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service before applying, since H-1B specialty occupation approval depends on your degree being treated as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's or higher.
Target departments with active hiring cycles
University of Arizona posts teaching roles by department and semester. STEM, health sciences, and business departments tend to hire year-round, while humanities roles cluster around spring postings. Timing your applications to match departmental hiring windows improves your chances of a timely offer.
Clarify visa pathway before accepting an offer
Teaching roles at universities can fall under H-1B, J-1, or TN depending on your nationality and the role's structure. Confirm with the university's international services office which pathway applies to your position before the offer is finalized, since the filing process differs significantly.
Understand the J-1 two-year home residency rule
If University of Arizona sponsors you on a J-1, check whether your program carries the two-year home residency requirement. This affects your ability to later change to H-1B or apply for a Green Card, and a waiver through DOL or a federal agency may be required.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Teaching roles by visa type
Not every teaching posting at University of Arizona specifies sponsorship eligibility upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter open positions by visa type so you're only applying to roles where your specific immigration status, whether H-1B, E-3, or TN, is supported.
Start PERM preparation early for tenure-track roles
Tenure-track faculty positions often lead to EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. The DOL recruitment documentation process for academic roles requires specific advertising steps, so engaging the university's immigration counsel early after hire avoids delays down the line.

Find Teaching at University of Arizona JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Arizona sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, University of Arizona sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying teaching positions. The role must meet USCIS specialty occupation requirements, meaning it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the duties. Faculty and instructional roles in fields like sciences, engineering, business, and health typically qualify, though adjunct or non-credit positions may not.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at University of Arizona?
Teaching positions at University of Arizona are posted through the university's official careers portal, where you apply directly by department and job category. You can also find and filter sponsorship-eligible openings through Migrate Mate, which lets you search by visa type. Applications typically require a CV, cover letter, teaching philosophy statement, and academic references.
Which visa types does University of Arizona commonly use for Teaching roles?
University of Arizona uses H-1B, J-1, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT or CPT for teaching and instructional roles, depending on the candidate's nationality and position type. J-1 is common for visiting scholars and exchange-based appointments. H-1B is the standard path for longer-term faculty hires. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may use the TN.
What qualifications does University of Arizona expect for Teaching positions?
Most teaching roles require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant subject area, with tenure-track and research faculty positions typically requiring a Ph.D. Practical or industry experience is weighted alongside academic credentials, particularly in professional programs like law, medicine, and business. Teaching experience, publications, and a demonstrated research agenda strengthen applications for higher-ranked faculty roles.
How do I plan my timeline when targeting a Teaching role at University of Arizona?
H-1B cap-subject filings have an April 1 start date with a March lottery registration window, so an offer needs to be in place by February at the latest. Cap-exempt university roles can be filed year-round with USCIS, often with a processing window of three to six months for standard processing. Factor in LCA certification through DOL, which typically takes seven to ten business days before the H-1B petition can be submitted.
