INTRODUCTION
Molex possesses a rich heritage in the optical industry, delivering high-performance, field-proven optical solutions spanning components, modules, and fully integrated line cards. We provide cutting-edge wavelength management and amplifier technologies, supported by deep optical, mechanical, electrical, and software integration capabilities. These strengths enable Molex to serve the evolving needs of high-density, high-bandwidth, and flexible optical networks.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mechanical Engineer will own mechanical designs of advanced optoelectronic packages (e.g., CPO, ELSFP). This role is responsible for all elements of mechanical design that relate to component design, manufacturability and long-term reliability. The position requires close collaboration with R&D and product design teams, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to ensure laser components meet stringent optical, mechanical, and Telcordia reliability requirements.
Essential Functions
- Lead mechanical design and layout of laser diode packages and various subcomponents
- Design and optimize optical subassemblies (laser, lens system, isolator/grating, fiber coupling) to achieve submicron alignment (<±0.5 µm lateral, <±1 µm axial) with high coupling efficiency and long-term stability
- Develop package architectures integrating TEC, submounts (e.g., AlN, CuW), hermetic housings, lids, getters, and fiber attach features (e.g., ferrules, V-grooves)
- Ensure compatibility with active alignment processes, including fixture design, alignment tolerancing, and drift control during solder reflow or epoxy cure
- Perform thermal and mechanical design analysis:
- FEA for CTE mismatch, stress, and deformation
- Thermal modeling for junction temperature, heat spreading, and TEC load
- Evaluate impact on wavelength shift and coupling efficiency
- Design for high thermal power density (>5-10 W/mm²) and ensure adequate thermal margin
- Design for hermetic sealing approaches (e.g., seam seal, laser weld) meeting leak rate targets (e.g., <10)
- Select and qualify materials and attachment methods (AuSn solder, soft solder, epoxies) considering voiding, creep, and long-term adhesion
- Partner with suppliers to evaluate component capability, process maturity, and long-term reliability risks
- Drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) to enable high-yield, scalable production
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 10+ years of industry R&D experience with mechanical design of fiber-coupled optoelectronic packages developed and transferred to manufacturing environments
- Demonstrated experience with optical alignment of components to submicron tolerances, designing for high thermal power density
- Proven ability to design for submicron stability over life (e.g., thermal drift, mechanical creep)
- Mechanical design using Mech software package/s with finite element analysis (FEA)
- Strong background in FEA modeling to calculate stress/design from CTE mismatch, optic misalignment, thermal limits, etc. CFD is a plus but not required
- Knowledgeable of various optical components (e.g., gratings, mirrors, lenses), stable attachment methods (e.g., epoxy and solder based)
- Knowledgeable in component qualification methodologies
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) methodology: design, verification, qualification, release to manufacturing
- Strong communication skills with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional internal teams
COMPENSATION
- Salary Range: $180,000 - $250,000 per year

Tailor your resume to Molex's manufacturing context
Molex operates high-volume connector and component production lines. Highlight hands-on experience with automated assembly equipment, preventive maintenance programs, and any background in tight-tolerance manufacturing environments rather than general repair work.
Target Molex facilities with active equipment upgrade cycles
Manufacturing plants mid-cycle on capital equipment upgrades post more Mechanic openings than stable facilities. Research which Molex sites have announced expansion or retooling, then direct your applications there to find roles with genuine sponsorship urgency.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Mechanic openings by visa type
Molex posts Mechanic roles across multiple facilities, not all of which carry the same sponsorship options. Use Migrate Mate to filter open positions by the visa types Molex has sponsored, so you apply only to roles where your immigration pathway is actually supported.
Clarify H-1B cap timing with your Molex recruiter early
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start. If you're interviewing outside that window, ask Molex's HR team whether a cap-exempt filing avenue applies or whether a TN classification could bridge the gap while you wait for the next lottery.
Prepare for PERM labor certification if pursuing a Green Card
EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through Molex requires a DOL PERM audit-proof file. Gather official records of every past employer, exact job titles, and documented skills requirements before your employer's counsel initiates the process, since missing records stall PERM filings significantly.

Find Mechanic at Molex JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Molex sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanics?
Yes, Molex has sponsored H-1B visas for Mechanic roles. Because H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, Molex typically structures these roles to emphasize advanced technical systems, robotics, or precision manufacturing knowledge that supports the degree requirement. If your background aligns with that framing, H-1B is a realistic path at Molex.
How do I apply for Mechanic jobs at Molex?
You can apply directly through Molex's careers portal on their website. For a more targeted approach, use Migrate Mate to browse Mechanic openings at Molex filtered by your specific visa type, so you only spend time on roles where sponsorship is already confirmed. Tailor your application to emphasize equipment maintenance experience relevant to high-volume connector manufacturing.
Which visa types does Molex commonly use for Mechanic roles?
Molex has sponsored Mechanic roles under several visa categories, including H-1B for specialty occupation cases, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles, F-1 OPT and CPT for students in manufacturing-related programs, and EB-2 or EB-3 for candidates pursuing permanent residence through employer-sponsored Green Card pathways.
What qualifications does Molex expect for sponsored Mechanic positions?
Molex generally looks for hands-on experience with industrial machinery, preventive maintenance systems, and ideally exposure to automated or precision manufacturing environments. For visa-sponsored roles, particularly H-1B, the position is typically framed around advanced technical knowledge, so credentials like an associate or bachelor's degree in a mechanical or electromechanical field strengthen your application considerably.
How do I plan my timeline for Molex Mechanic visa sponsorship?
Timeline depends heavily on the visa type. TN classification can be obtained at the border or port of entry with minimal lead time. H-1B cap-subject petitions require filing in April for an October 1 start, meaning you should aim to secure an offer at least six months in advance. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs 18 to 36 months from initiation, so those conversations need to start well before you need status changes.
