Frame your credentials around CBRE's scope
CBRE Mechanics work on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems in commercial properties. Certifications like EPA 608, OSHA 30, and state-issued journeyman licenses signal you're ready for facilities-grade work, not just general mechanical repair.
Target CBRE's facilities management business unit
CBRE's Global Workplace Solutions division drives most of its Mechanic hiring. Applying directly to GWS-branded postings, rather than corporate roles, puts your application in front of the teams that routinely work with international candidates on technical trades sponsorship.
Ask about prevailing wage compliance during offers
For H-1B and EB-3 sponsorship, DOL requires CBRE to pay the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. When negotiating your offer, confirm the wage level assigned to your role, since Level I and Level II determinations can significantly affect your final salary band.
Use Migrate Mate to filter active CBRE Mechanic openings
Not all CBRE postings flag sponsorship availability upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers and surface active Mechanic roles at CBRE that match your visa type, so you're not applying blind to postings that won't move forward with you.
Prepare for a multi-site background check process
CBRE operates under E-Verify for employment eligibility verification and runs background checks that cover prior facilities or construction work history. Having documented references from previous building maintenance or commercial trades roles speeds up the onboarding and authorization confirmation process significantly.

Find Mechanic at CBRE JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does CBRE sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanics?
Yes, CBRE sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanic roles, particularly within its facilities management and Global Workplace Solutions divisions. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, so roles tied to building automation, HVAC systems engineering, or complex mechanical infrastructure tend to be stronger candidates for this visa category than general maintenance positions.
Which visa types are commonly used for Mechanic roles at CBRE?
CBRE has sponsored Mechanics on H-1B, H-1B1, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways. TN is a practical route for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical trades. EB-3 is the most common permanent residence path for skilled tradespeople, requiring PERM labor certification filed through DOL before USCIS can process the immigrant petition.
What qualifications and experience does CBRE expect for sponsored Mechanic roles?
CBRE typically looks for journeyman-level or higher certification in a relevant trade, such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing, alongside hands-on experience in commercial or industrial facilities. EPA 608 refrigerant handling certification is frequently listed as a requirement. Experience with building management systems or preventive maintenance programs in large commercial properties strengthens your application considerably.
How do I apply for Mechanic jobs at CBRE?
You can browse and apply for Mechanic openings at CBRE through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can identify postings that align with your work authorization. Focus your search on CBRE's Global Workplace Solutions postings, as that division accounts for a substantial share of its technical trades hiring across commercial property accounts nationwide.
How do I understand the timeline for CBRE to sponsor my visa as a Mechanic?
Timeline depends on your visa category. F-1 OPT and TN authorization can move within weeks of an offer. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow USCIS's annual April filing window, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. EB-3 sponsorship involving PERM labor certification through DOL typically runs 12 to 24 months before reaching the I-140 petition stage, so start that conversation early in the offer process.
