Obtain Trade Certifications Before Applying
CBRE's facility maintenance roles typically require certifications like EPA 608 for HVAC refrigerants or a licensed electrician credential. Having these in hand before you apply signals job readiness and removes a common pre-offer sticking point for sponsored candidates.
Target CBRE's Managed Properties Pipeline
CBRE posts Maintenance Technician openings tied to specific managed buildings or portfolios, not a single central location. Searching by metro area and filtering for facilities management contracts surfaces roles that smaller competitors never list.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter CBRE Openings by Visa Type
Not every CBRE Maintenance Technician posting is tied to a sponsorship-eligible position. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by the visa categories CBRE has sponsored for this function, so you're applying to positions with a realistic path forward.
Clarify Your Visa Status Early in Screening
CBRE's HR teams manage sponsorship approvals through a centralized process. Raising your status in the first recruiter call, rather than at the offer stage, avoids late-process complications and confirms whether the specific facility site supports sponsorship.
Understand How PERM Applies to Maintenance Roles
EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card paths for Maintenance Technicians require PERM labor certification, where DOL verifies no qualified U.S. workers are available. Be prepared for a multi-year timeline and confirm your employer is willing to begin the process before signing an offer.
Align Your Start Date With Visa Processing Windows
TN and H-1B1 status changes can process faster than standard H-1B cap filings, which are tied to the October 1 fiscal year start. If you're coming from Canada or an eligible country, ask CBRE's HR team which category fits your background before the offer is finalized.

Find Maintenance Technician at CBRE JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does CBRE sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenance Technicians?
Yes, CBRE sponsors H-1B visas for Maintenance Technician roles, though not every individual posting will include sponsorship. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, which for maintenance roles typically means the job demands a specialized technical background. Confirming sponsorship eligibility with the recruiter early in the process is the right move.
How do I apply for Maintenance Technician jobs at CBRE?
Applications go through CBRE's careers portal, where roles are listed by region and property type. You can also find CBRE's Maintenance Technician openings filtered by visa sponsorship category on Migrate Mate, which helps you focus only on positions where sponsorship has been offered for this role type. Apply directly once you've confirmed the position fits your status.
Which visa types are commonly used for Maintenance Technician roles at CBRE?
CBRE has sponsored H-1B, H-1B1, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and EB-2/EB-3 Green Card pathways for Maintenance Technicians. TN is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose occupational category fits the USMCA schedule. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates in engineering or facilities management programs transitioning into full-time roles.
What qualifications does CBRE expect for a sponsored Maintenance Technician?
CBRE generally looks for hands-on experience with HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, and building automation controls. Trade certifications such as EPA 608, a journeyman electrician license, or a relevant technical degree strengthen your profile. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, the role needs to demonstrate a requirement for specialized knowledge, so a technical credential aligned to the job duties is important.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for a Maintenance Technician at CBRE?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN status for Canadian or Mexican nationals can be processed at the border on the day of entry. H-1B cap filings require the April lottery, with employment starting no earlier than October 1 of that year. EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically takes several years from initiation. CBRE routes approvals through a centralized immigration team, so expect some additional coordination time between offer and filing.
