Certify Your Trades Credentials Before Applying
CBRE's facilities roles expect verifiable licenses, such as EPA Section 608 refrigerant certification or state-issued electrical or journeyman licenses. Getting these documented and apostilled before you apply removes a common delay in the sponsorship evaluation process.
Target CBRE's Property Management Contracts Directly
CBRE staffs Maintenance Mechanics through its property and facilities management divisions, not just corporate hiring. Search for postings tied to specific building portfolios or client accounts, as these roles often have more flexibility on sponsorship than shared-services positions.
Understand How Prevailing Wage Affects Your Offer
For H-1B and PERM-based sponsorship, DOL requires CBRE to meet prevailing wage levels for the specific geographic area and job duties. Know the wage tier for your metro before negotiating so you can confirm the offer satisfies DOL requirements without renegotiating later.
Ask About Sponsorship Track Record During Interviews
Some CBRE regional operations handle sponsorship more routinely than others. During your interview, ask whether the specific facility or property team has sponsored mechanics before, since regional hiring managers often have more influence over visa decisions than central HR.
Browse Verified Sponsoring Employers on Migrate Mate
Identifying which CBRE properties and job categories have active sponsorship history saves time in your search. Use Migrate Mate to filter Maintenance Mechanic openings at CBRE by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already on the table.
Align Your Start Date With USCIS Filing Windows
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year with an October 1 start date. If you're relying on a cap-subject H-1B, time your CBRE application process to conclude well before the March registration window so your employer has room to file.

Find Maintenance Mechanic at CBRE JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does CBRE sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenance Mechanics?
Yes, CBRE sponsors H-1B visas for Maintenance Mechanic roles, though sponsorship decisions are made at the regional or property-team level rather than centrally. Your role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which means the position typically needs to require at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a relevant technical field. Roles with specific engineering or systems requirements tend to meet this threshold more readily than general maintenance positions.
How do I apply for Maintenance Mechanic jobs at CBRE?
Applications go through CBRE's careers portal, where Maintenance Mechanic openings are listed by location and property type. You can also find visa-sponsoring Maintenance Mechanic roles at CBRE filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify positions where sponsorship has historically been available before you invest time in the application process.
Which visa types does CBRE commonly use for Maintenance Mechanic roles?
CBRE sponsors Maintenance Mechanics through several pathways depending on your background and long-term plans. H-1B and H-1B1 are common for specialty-occupation roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for recent graduates in engineering or facilities management programs. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations. For permanent residence, CBRE has used EB-2 and EB-3 PERM-based sponsorship for longer-tenured mechanics in skilled roles.
What qualifications does CBRE expect for Maintenance Mechanic roles with sponsorship?
CBRE generally looks for hands-on experience with commercial building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems. Industry certifications such as EPA Section 608, universal refrigerant handling, or state journeyman licenses strengthen your candidacy significantly. For visa sponsorship to qualify, the role needs to require specialized knowledge that aligns with a defined degree field, so positions at complex commercial or industrial properties tend to meet that bar more consistently.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take at CBRE for Maintenance Mechanic roles?
From offer to work authorization, timelines vary by visa type. An H-1B with premium processing takes about two to three weeks for USCIS adjudication after filing, but the LCA certification through DOL adds roughly a week before that. OPT transfers can move faster if your authorization is already in place. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship is a multi-year process, so it typically begins after you've established yourself in the role. Build at least 30 to 45 days of runway into your start-date negotiation.
