Obtain Your Journeyman or Master Electrician License
CBRE's facilities roles often require state-issued electrical licensing, not just a degree. Getting licensed before you apply strengthens your specialty occupation case and gives hiring managers a concrete credential to anchor the H-1B petition around.
Target CBRE's Facilities Management Business Line
CBRE operates distinct divisions, and Electrical Technician roles sit primarily under Global Workplace Solutions. Filtering your search to that division narrows you to the teams most likely to have open requisitions and established sponsorship workflows for trades positions.
Browse Open Roles on Migrate Mate
Search for Electrical Technician openings at CBRE on Migrate Mate, which surfaces visa-sponsoring employers specifically. You can filter by role and sponsorship type so you're only reviewing positions where immigration support is already on the table.
Flag Your Licensing Reciprocity Across States
CBRE posts Electrical Technician roles across many states, and license reciprocity rules differ significantly. Clarify which states honor your existing license before applying, so you and your hiring manager aren't caught off guard during the offer stage.
Confirm the Prevailing Wage Tier With DOL Before Signing
DOL's prevailing wage determination for electrical trades varies by metro area and experience level. Before accepting an offer, verify that the wage CBRE is offering meets or exceeds the Level I or Level II threshold for your specific work location.
Account for PERM Labor Certification Lead Time
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, CBRE must complete PERM before USCIS can adjudicate your immigrant petition. That recruitment and advertising process routinely takes six to twelve months, so start the conversation with HR well before your nonimmigrant status expires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CBRE sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Technicians?
Yes, CBRE sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Technician roles, particularly within its Global Workplace Solutions division. Because electrical technician positions require specialized knowledge tied to a specific field, they can qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. Your best position is to have relevant engineering coursework or a technical degree alongside any trade licensing, since USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for trades roles more carefully than for traditional white-collar positions.
How do I apply for Electrical Technician jobs at CBRE?
Applications go through CBRE's careers portal, where roles are listed by business line and location. Migrate Mate also surfaces CBRE's Electrical Technician openings and filters specifically for positions where visa sponsorship is available, which saves time if immigration support is a requirement for you. Tailor your resume to highlight building systems experience, electrical certifications, and any relevant state licenses before submitting.
Which visa types does CBRE commonly use for Electrical Technician roles?
CBRE uses a range of visa categories for technical roles, including H-1B, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT for recent graduates, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term hires. TN visa can be a faster path for qualifying Canadian or Mexican nationals since it doesn't involve a lottery. F-1 OPT is common for candidates coming directly from engineering or technology programs before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does CBRE expect from Electrical Technician candidates?
CBRE typically looks for hands-on experience with building electrical systems, HVAC controls integration, and low-voltage wiring, alongside a relevant technical degree or associate's degree in electrical technology. A state journeyman or master electrician license is frequently listed as required or strongly preferred. Familiarity with building automation systems and preventive maintenance platforms strengthens your application, particularly for roles in large commercial portfolios.
How long does the sponsorship process take for an Electrical Technician at CBRE?
For H-1B sponsorship, standard USCIS processing takes three to six months after the October 1 cap year start, with premium processing available to compress adjudication to around 15 business days. If you're pursuing a Green Card through PERM, add six to twelve months for DOL's labor certification phase before USCIS even begins reviewing your immigrant petition. Starting sponsorship discussions early in the hiring process gives both you and CBRE's HR team enough runway to meet those timelines without gaps in your work authorization.
