EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Temporary, June and July
PRIMARY DUTY: As a member of the teaching team, the Theater/Fine Arts instructor will be responsible for instruction within the area Theater/Fine Arts in the Upward Bound Math/Science summer program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and maintain lesson plans while cooperating with other high school and/or university team members
- Cooperate in the development of curricula and submit appropriate questions to be used in constructing a pre-test and post-test
- Provide classroom/laboratory instruction and supervision in assigned academic units
- Provide one-on-one and/or small group tutorial services as needed by students
- Complete evaluations of project participants and of 5-6 teaching assistants
- Maintain documentation as required by program directives
- Maintain close communication with other staff members
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Certification/License: Current certification as a high school teacher of Theater/Fine Arts (or closely related field) in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, or Missouri
Experience: Classroom or related experiences with TRIO Eligible students (1st generation, low income)
Skills: Knowledge of the teaching/learning process, public school academic practices, and the operational systems of secondary school; ability to communicate effectively in the English language both orally and in print
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work within the Upward Bound Math/Science six-week program.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Appropriate classroom technology as necessary
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete essential classroom functions and ability to lift up to 20 pounds. May require some walking between buildings/classrooms. For Summer 2026, UBMS Classes will be held in the Dean L Hubbard Center for Innovation.

In conjunction with its emergency and disaster management program, Northwest organizes and hosts Missouri Hope, an annual mass casualty training exercise that attracts first responders and emergency workers from throughout the nation and provides hands-on training in preparation for a natural disaster.

Northwest offers 1,200 student employment positions, allowing students to build professional skills through its internationally benchmarked student employment program.
