Principal Forward Deployed Engineer — Microsoft Stack
Product Development, Sustenance, Modernization & Agentic AI infusion
Employment Type: Full-time
Travel: 25% during active client engagements
Experience Level: 15+ years
About the Role
As a Principal Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you will be the most senior technical leader embedded inside our strategic client accounts. You will architect, code, and ship the highest-risk components of large-scale Microsoft-stack modernization programs while embedding agentic AI into client products and engineering workflows. You will own technical outcomes — measured in cost, velocity, quality, and revenue impact — and lead an 8–15 person Persistent delivery pod alongside the client's engineering leadership. This is a hands-on principal role. Approximately 60% of your time will be on engineering, architecture, and code; the remainder on client leadership, pod direction, and platform contribution.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and code the components of complex Microsoft-stack modernization programs, replacing legacy .NET Framework, WebForms, WCF, and VB.NET monoliths with .NET 8/9 cloud-native systems on Azure.
- Design and ship production agentic AI systems on Azure AI Foundry, Semantic Kernel, and the Microsoft Agent Framework, embedded into client products or SDLC workflows to deliver measurable engineering productivity gains.
- Lead target-state architecture, strangler-fig migration sequencing, agent topology design, eval frameworks, and architectural decision records the client engineering organization will operate for years.
- Establish the data and insight layer using Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Direct Lake) and Power BI to make modernization and AI outcomes visible to client executives within weeks.
- Own engineering standards for the Persistent pod, including code reviews, CI/CD discipline, observability, and security posture; raise the technical bar continuously.
- Partner with Persistent account leadership on SOWs, change orders, and expansion opportunities; serve as the technical face of Persistent at the client.
- Support all relevant pre-sales pursuits as principal technical advisor.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years at principal architect, distinguished engineer, or equivalent senior technical leadership level on Microsoft-stack programs.
- Lead architect on at least three legacy-to-cloud-native modernization programs of $5M+ TCV or equivalent enterprise scale, with documented business outcomes.
- 3+ years building production GenAI or agentic systems, with at least one system live in production carrying real user load and measurable business outcomes.
- Active hands-on coder, currently writing production code, reviewing pull requests, and producing reference implementations.
- Demonstrable client-facing seniority: defending technical decisions to CTOs and Boards, contributing to SOW and contract negotiations, and holding engineering quality under commercial pressure.
Product Development, Sustenance & Modernization on Microsoft stack (required — primary focus area)
- C# 12+, .NET 8/9, ASP.NET Core, Minimal APIs, gRPC; proven uplift patterns from .NET Framework 4.x, VB.NET, WCF, WebForms, classic ASP.
- Strangler fig, anti-corruption layer, branch-by-abstraction, event interception; domain-driven decomposition of monoliths; CQRS and event sourcing where warranted.
- Cloud-native on Azure: AKS, Container Apps, App Service, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, API Management, Application Insights, OpenTelemetry.
- Data tier modernization: SQL Server to Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, or PostgreSQL Flexible Server; CDC patterns; dual-write transitions.
- Engineering platform: Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, Bicep, ARM, Terraform, GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot Enterprise.

Align your portfolio to enterprise architecture domains
Persistent Systems hires Architects who can lead client-facing delivery across cloud, data, and application modernization. Frame your portfolio around end-to-end solution design, not just implementation, so your experience maps directly to how they staff these roles.
Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires H-1B petitions to demonstrate the role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher. For Architect positions, ensure your degree field aligns with the technical domain listed in the job description before applying.
Target Persistent Systems business units by technology practice
Persistent Systems organizes hiring around practice areas like digital engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms. Search open Architect roles filtered by practice to find positions where your specific technical background is the primary qualification, not a secondary preference.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Architect openings with sponsorship history
Filter for Architect roles at Persistent Systems on Migrate Mate to see positions where sponsorship is actively offered. This saves time screening out roles where sponsorship is uncertain or unavailable for this function.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline before accepting an offer
If you're not currently in H-1B status, the annual cap registration window runs in March, with October 1 as the earliest start date. Build this into your negotiation so your start date is realistic and your employer files during the correct registration period.
Clarify PERM sponsorship expectations during the offer stage
Persistent Systems sponsors Green Cards through PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for qualifying employees. Ask directly during the offer process whether Green Card sponsorship is available for the specific Architect role and what the typical timeline to filing looks like.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Persistent Systems sponsor H-1B visas for Architects?
Yes, Persistent Systems sponsors H-1B visas for Architect roles. The company operates as a technology services employer with a consistent pattern of sponsoring technical and senior individual contributor positions. For Architect roles specifically, the position must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning the job requires a degree in a directly related technical field.
Which visa types does Persistent Systems use for Architect roles?
Persistent Systems sponsors H-1B visas for Architect positions requiring specialty occupation qualifications. For candidates on TN visa status, certain Architect roles may qualify depending on the job duties and citizenship. For longer-term permanent residence, Persistent Systems uses PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for eligible employees who have demonstrated tenure and performance in their roles.
How do I apply for Architect jobs at Persistent Systems?
Browse open Architect positions on Migrate Mate to find roles at Persistent Systems that include visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific practice area listed in the job description, whether that is cloud, application modernization, or data architecture. Persistent Systems hiring processes for Architect roles typically involve multiple technical rounds and a client-alignment interview, so prepare for both design and delivery scenarios.
What qualifications does Persistent Systems expect for Architect roles?
Persistent Systems typically looks for Architects with a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, plus significant hands-on experience in solution design. Certifications from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud carry weight for cloud-focused Architect roles. Client-facing experience and the ability to translate business requirements into technical architecture are consistently emphasized across their job descriptions.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for an Architect role at Persistent Systems?
If you need a new H-1B cap-subject petition, the registration period opens in March each year, and the earliest employment start date if selected is October 1. Start your job search at Persistent Systems several months before the March window so your employer has time to prepare and file your registration. If you're transferring an existing H-1B from another employer, Persistent Systems can file a cap-exempt transfer and you can start sooner once USCIS receives the petition.
