Frame your credentials around institutional client exposure
Piper Sandler's Business Development roles prioritize candidates who can engage institutional investors and corporate clients. Tailor your resume to highlight capital markets exposure, relationship management with asset managers, or prior advisory experience rather than general sales backgrounds.
Target Piper Sandler's sector-aligned BD openings
Piper Sandler organizes its advisory business around verticals like healthcare, financial institutions, and consumer. Applying to openings tied to a sector where you have deal or coverage history significantly strengthens your sponsorship case by narrowing the specialty occupation argument.
Clarify sponsorship eligibility before your first interview
Ask your recruiter directly whether the specific Business Development role is eligible for H-1B sponsorship. Some BD positions at investment banks are structured as registered representative roles, which can complicate petition filing timelines and LCA certification with DOL.
Align your offer timeline with the H-1B cap window
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you're targeting a full-time BD role at Piper Sandler, securing an offer by February gives your employer enough lead time to register you and file a complete petition within the cap window.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Business Development roles at Piper Sandler
Search Piper Sandler's active BD openings on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for employers with H-1B sponsorship history. This lets you prioritize roles where the firm has already demonstrated willingness to sponsor rather than guessing from the job description alone.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation before the offer stage
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions for Business Development roles in financial services. Gather transcripts, professional certifications like Series 79 or CFA enrollment, and a degree-to-role mapping showing your finance or economics background directly supports the BD function at Piper Sandler.

Find Business Development at Piper Sandler JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Piper Sandler sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development roles?
Yes, Piper Sandler has sponsored H-1B visas for Business Development positions. Sponsorship is not guaranteed for every opening, and decisions depend on the specific role, your qualifications, and timing relative to the USCIS H-1B cap registration window each March. Confirming sponsorship availability directly with your recruiter early in the process is the most reliable approach.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Piper Sandler?
Applications go through Piper Sandler's careers portal, where roles are listed by division and location. You can also find open Business Development positions filtered by sponsorship history on Migrate Mate, which helps you confirm the firm is actively hiring for this function before you invest time in the application process.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Development roles at Piper Sandler?
The H-1B is the primary visa category used for Business Development professionals at firms like Piper Sandler. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT extension may also pursue these roles while their employer files for H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications and experience does Piper Sandler expect for Business Development candidates?
Piper Sandler typically looks for candidates with a background in finance, economics, or business and experience engaging institutional clients, asset managers, or corporate counterparties. Sector knowledge aligned to one of the firm's advisory verticals, such as healthcare or financial institutions, is a differentiator. Professional credentials like a CFA or FINRA licenses can strengthen your profile for sponsorship eligibility.
How do I manage the timeline between a job offer and H-1B filing at Piper Sandler?
If you receive an offer after the March H-1B registration window closes, your start date would shift to October 1 of the following year unless you already hold valid H-1B status or are transferring from another employer. Discuss this timeline with HR upfront. Employers can file a transfer petition outside the cap if you hold current H-1B status, allowing for an earlier start.
