Summary
QuEra is building its next-generation quantum computer in Boston: the first fault-tolerant, universal quantum computer at a scale where commercially useful applications become possible. This is the scientific, technological and commercial frontier — and this Quantum Scientist role helps make it real.
You will join the Quantum Computing Services team early in this new machine's life, learn QuEra's technology platform and the specific system as it is brought up. Your focus will be calibration, benchmarking and modeling: developing and automating the processes that maintain the machine performance and building the models that explain and predict its behavior — turning a complex experimental apparatus into a well-understood, stable system.
Everything you do serves one ultimate goal: turning this machine into a quantum computing product, with dependable service, delivered both internally and externally.
Across the machine's lifecycle you will be expected to:
- Develop and automate calibration routines that keep the machine and its subsystems performing to spec, working with the hardware and software teams to implement them in the control stack.
- Design and run benchmarking protocols that characterize system and subsystem performance and track it over time against product requirements.
- Build and validate models of the machine — from physical error mechanisms to full-system behavior — to predict performance, guide design choices and inform the roadmap.
- Sit at the interface of the hardware, software and applications, translating between them and keeping calibration, benchmarking and modeling consistent as the system evolves.
- Feed these insights back into the product and service, helping turn the machine into a reliable, programmable compute resource.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in experimental or computational AMO physics, quantum information, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience characterizing, calibrating or modeling a neutral-atom, trapped-ion or comparable quantum system.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, and a real interest in working at the interface of multidisciplinary teams.
- Software skills, including programming languages and a basic understanding of software architectures.
- Familiarity with quantum error correction and fault-tolerant architectures is a plus.
- Familiarity with modern AI workflows for automation is a plus.
- Success in research, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or scientific talks.
- Excitement to work at the scientific, technological and commercial frontier of quantum computing, and to help turn a flagship system into a product and service.

Target roles aligned with quantum research expertise
QuEra's sponsorship activity centers on highly specialized technical positions in quantum computing, hardware, and software. Candidates with backgrounds in physics, quantum information science, or adjacent engineering disciplines are most likely to be considered for sponsored roles.
Understand which visa types QuEra supports
QuEra sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas. If you're on OPT or CPT, you can begin working while your status is valid, giving you time to demonstrate value before a full H-1B sponsorship conversation arises.
Apply early if your OPT or CPT has a hard deadline
Quantum computing roles at companies like QuEra often involve lengthy technical interviews. Starting the process well before your work authorization expires gives both you and the hiring team enough runway to complete evaluations without timeline pressure.
Highlight academic and research credentials prominently
QuEra recruits from university research programs and national labs. Strong academic publications, thesis work, or lab experience in quantum systems can differentiate your application in a field where traditional industry experience is scarce and highly competitive.
Use a platform that verifies real sponsorship history
Not every job posting makes visa sponsorship clear upfront. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your effort on companies like QuEra that have an active track record of supporting international candidates.
Engage with QuEra's research output before applying
QuEra publishes academic papers and participates in quantum computing conferences. Familiarity with their specific technology approach, particularly neutral-atom qubits, signals genuine expertise and signals to hiring teams that your interest goes beyond a generic job search.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does QuEra Computing sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, QuEra Computing sponsors H-1B visas. The company has an active sponsorship history and has filed H-1B petitions for international employees in technical roles. If you're a foreign national with expertise in quantum computing, physics, or related engineering fields, QuEra is worth targeting as a potential H-1B sponsor.
What visa types does QuEra Computing sponsor?
QuEra Computing sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visas. This range makes the company accessible to international candidates at multiple stages, including students on curricular or optional practical training, treaty nationals eligible for TN visa status, and exchange visitors on J-1 programs, in addition to those pursuing H-1B sponsorship.
Which roles at QuEra Computing are most likely to be sponsored?
Sponsorship at QuEra Computing is concentrated in highly technical positions requiring specialized knowledge. Roles in quantum hardware engineering, quantum software development, theoretical physics, and applied research are the most common candidates. Given the company's focus on neutral-atom quantum systems, candidates with graduate-level backgrounds in quantum information or condensed matter physics are particularly well positioned.
How do I find open sponsored roles at QuEra Computing?
Migrate Mate lists open roles at verified visa sponsors, including QuEra Computing, so you can search specifically for positions where sponsorship is part of the hiring process. This saves time compared to filtering through general job boards where sponsorship willingness is often unclear or unstated. Checking regularly is worthwhile as quantum computing roles open on a rolling basis.
How do I approach the application process at QuEra Computing as an international candidate?
Lead with your technical credentials and any published research or lab experience, as QuEra evaluates deep domain expertise closely. Be transparent about your visa status and timeline early in the process. If you're on OPT or CPT, confirm your authorization end date and factor in the time required for technical interviews, which can span multiple rounds over several weeks.
