Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Foreign PT credentials must be evaluated by a FCCPT-approved body before USCIS will process your H-1B petition. Start this process early since evaluations can take several weeks and Select Medical's recruiters will ask for it upfront.
Target Select Medical's outpatient rehab locations
Select Medical staffs physical therapists across both inpatient and outpatient settings. Outpatient rehabilitation centers tend to have more consistent visa sponsorship workflows, so prioritize those roles when filtering open positions by location and clinic type.
Confirm state licensure requirements before your interview
PT licensure is state-specific, and Select Medical will expect you to hold or actively pursue a license in the state where the role is based. Research the National Physical Therapy Examination requirements for your target state before your first interview.
Ask directly about LCA timing during the offer stage
Before H-1B filing, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying the offered wage meets prevailing wage standards. Ask Select Medical's HR team when the LCA will be submitted so you can track the process and anticipate your petition timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find open PT roles with sponsorship
Not every PT posting at Select Medical specifies visa sponsorship eligibility. Use Migrate Mate to filter and identify the specific listings where H-1B or green card sponsorship is confirmed, saving you from outreach that goes nowhere.
Plan your green card timeline around PERM filing
If you're targeting permanent residence, Select Medical's EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship requires a PERM labor certification through DOL before the immigrant petition can be filed. The PERM audit process can extend timelines by 12 months or more, so factor that into your planning early.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Select Medical sponsor H-1B visas for PTs?
Yes, Select Medical sponsors H-1B visas for physical therapists. PT roles at Select Medical qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards because they require a specific degree in physical therapy. Sponsorship availability varies by location and business need, so confirm directly with the hiring team when you receive an offer.
Which visa types does Select Medical use for PT roles?
Select Medical sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visas for physical therapists. On the nonimmigrant side, the H-1B is the primary pathway. For permanent residence, the company has used EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship, which require a PERM labor certification filed through the Department of Labor before the immigrant petition moves forward.
What qualifications does Select Medical expect for PT positions?
Select Medical expects candidates to hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree or equivalent, a passing score on the NPTE, and an active or pending state license in the relevant state. Foreign-trained PTs also need a credential evaluation from a FCCPT-approved organization to confirm their degree meets U.S. equivalency standards before the H-1B petition can be filed.
How do I apply for PT jobs at Select Medical?
You can browse PT openings at Select Medical through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can focus on roles where H-1B or green card support is confirmed. When you apply, have your credential evaluation, state licensure status, and NPTE results ready since Select Medical's recruiters typically ask for these early in the screening process.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for a PT role?
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed once a year with a registration window in March. If you're selected, employment can start October 1 of the same year. Build your job search timeline to have an offer and completed LCA filing in place before the March registration deadline. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a cap-exempt transfer through Select Medical can happen outside this annual window.
