Target engineering and design roles first
Steelcase's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical and design disciplines tied to its core manufacturing business. Focus your applications on roles in mechanical engineering, industrial design, and product development where sponsorship is most consistently supported.
Understand the H-1B timeline before applying
H-1B is Steelcase's primary sponsorship vehicle. The cap-subject lottery runs once a year, so time your job search to align with the April filing window and discuss timing expectations with your recruiter early in the process.
Ask about OPT and CPT hiring explicitly
Steelcase has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT candidates, meaning students and recent graduates on F-1 status have a real path in. When reaching out or interviewing, confirm whether the specific role supports OPT authorization before accepting an offer.
Canadian and Mexican candidates should mention TN eligibility
Steelcase sponsors TN visas, which are faster and cheaper to process than H-1B. If you're a Canadian or Mexican national in a qualifying profession, flag your TN eligibility early, it can make sponsorship significantly simpler for the employer.
Research Steelcase's Michigan headquarters when targeting roles
Most of Steelcase's technical and manufacturing operations are concentrated in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Roles at the headquarters often have stronger institutional support for sponsorship than positions at smaller regional offices or distribution sites.
Use verified sponsorship data to find open roles
Not every job posting mentions visa sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, search Steelcase directly to see current openings where sponsorship is confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Steelcase sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Steelcase sponsors H-1B visas and it is the company's most commonly used work visa category. Sponsorship is primarily concentrated in technical roles such as engineering and product design. If you're targeting an H-1B, apply well ahead of the April registration window and confirm sponsorship eligibility with your recruiter during the interview process.
Which visa types does Steelcase sponsor?
Steelcase sponsors H-1B and Green Card (EB-2 and EB-3) petitions for longer-term hires, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. TN visas are also supported for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. The mix of visa types reflects a hiring strategy that spans entry-level through experienced professional candidates.
Which departments or roles at Steelcase are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Steelcase is most common in engineering, industrial design, research, and technology functions, areas that align with the company's core manufacturing and workplace innovation business. Roles requiring specialized technical degrees are the strongest candidates. General administrative or sales positions are less likely to receive sponsorship support.
How do I find visa-sponsored job openings at Steelcase?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Steelcase roles where sponsorship is confirmed. The platform aggregates job postings from verified sponsoring employers, so you can filter specifically for Steelcase openings without sifting through listings that don't support work authorization. This saves significant time compared to checking generic job boards.
How do I improve my chances of getting sponsored by Steelcase?
Align your application to roles in Steelcase's technical core, engineering, design, and research positions have the strongest sponsorship precedent. Clarify your visa status and work authorization needs early in conversations with recruiters. For F-1 candidates, confirming OPT eligibility upfront reduces friction. For Canadian and Mexican nationals, highlighting TN visa eligibility can accelerate the process considerably.
