OUR CHALLENGE
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data & AI Engineer to lead the development and integration of advanced data and AI technologies across our technical stack. This role involves designing and implementing connectors, ingestion frameworks, knowledge graphs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and user interfaces for conversational AI and graph exploration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in semantic web standards, graph databases, machine learning integration, and data engineering within enterprise environments, particularly in financial services or insurance sectors. This is a high-impact role requiring collaboration, innovation, and agility to deliver within an 8-week fast-paced project timeline.
Responsibilities:
- Own and develop the full technical stack, including ingestion frameworks, Medallion architecture with OneLake, GraphDB triple stores, Vector Index, Agentic RAG orchestrator, LLM gateways, guardrails, and UI components featuring conversational chat, SPARQL trace explainability, and graph explorer.
- Collaborate with data scientists, ontologists, and product teams to translate conceptual models into scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Ensure seamless integration of semantic web standards and ontology models within the graph database environment.
- Build and optimize retrieval-augmented generation pipelines by leveraging vector databases and LLM APIs.
- Implement safety guardrails, prompt engineering, and citation features to ensure AI output integrity and reliability.
- Support rapid delivery within an 8-week timeline, managing milestones and dependencies effectively.
- Work closely with data modellers and ontologists to refine and iterate ontologies and schemas.
- (Optional) Extend expertise into data pipelines, leveraging Microsoft Fabric components like OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Factory, and Medallion architecture; and implement federated SQL queries using tools like Trino or Databricks SQL.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Hands-on experience with graph databases such as GraphDB, Neo4j, or Stardog in production or advanced proof-of-concept contexts.
- Proficiency with semantic web standards, including ontology loading, validation, and querying in triple store environments.
- Familiarity with ontology authoring tools like Protégé or Metaphactory to collaborate on model iteration.
- Proven experience designing and building RAG pipelines, especially with agentic orchestration patterns.
- Hands-on experience with vector databases such as Azure AI Search, pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, or Qdrant for embedding and retrieval.
- Deep understanding of LLM API integration (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Azure OpenAI), prompt engineering, guardrails, and citation enforcement.
- Knowledge of NL-to-SPARQL and NL-to-SQL generation techniques, including few-shot prompting and schema-grounding.
- Strong understanding of AI safety considerations such as prompt injection defense, output sandboxing, and confidence scoring.
- Ability to operate efficiently within a short, 8-week delivery cycle with defined milestones.
PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Strong Python engineering skills for data pipeline development, ETL/ELT processes, and metadata ingestion.
- Experience working within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem: OneLake, Lakehouse, Notebooks, Data Factory, and Medallion architecture.
- Familiarity with JDBC/ODBC connectors, REST API integrations, and file format parsing (Excel, CSV, JSON).
- Experience with federated query engines like Trino or Databricks SQL.
WE OFFER:
- A highly competitive compensation and benefits package.
- A multinational organization with 58 offices in 21 countries and the possibility to work abroad.
- 10 days of paid annual leave (plus sick leave and national holidays).

Frame Your Data Skills Around Financial Services
Synechron's Data Contributor roles serve banking and capital markets clients. Highlight experience with financial data schemas, regulatory reporting, or data lineage tools in your resume and cover letter before you apply.
Confirm OPT Authorization Before Your First Interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, make sure your EAD card reflects a job category consistent with Data Contributor work. Synechron runs E-Verify, so any mismatch between your authorization and your role classification will surface immediately at onboarding.
Target Synechron's Consulting Delivery Teams Specifically
Synechron staffs Data Contributors through project-based delivery groups, not just internal IT. Roles tied to client engagements often have faster headcount approval and stronger sponsorship motivation because they're billable positions.
Clarify H-1B Cap Timing With Your Recruiter Early
H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start. If you're interviewing outside that window, ask your Synechron recruiter whether they'll file in the next cycle or bridge your status another way so you're not caught without authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open Data Contributor Roles
Synechron posts Data Contributor positions across multiple locations and engagement types. Use Migrate Mate to filter for open roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship so you're applying to positions where the pathway is already confirmed.
Prepare Your Degree Equivalency Documentation in Advance
Synechron's H-1B filings for data roles require USCIS to verify specialty occupation status. If your bachelor's degree is from outside the U.S. or is in a tangentially related field, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before the petition is filed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Synechron sponsor H-1B visas for Data Contributors?
Yes, Synechron sponsors H-1B visas for Data Contributor roles. The company has a consistent pattern of filing H-1B petitions for data and analytics positions supporting its financial technology clients. Because these roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, they're well-suited for H-1B sponsorship, provided your degree aligns with the specific data function in the job description.
How do I apply for Data Contributor jobs at Synechron?
Apply directly through Synechron's careers portal, or browse verified open roles on Migrate Mate, which filters for positions where visa sponsorship is confirmed. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect data pipeline, data quality, or governance work relevant to financial services clients. Synechron's recruiting process typically involves an initial screen followed by technical assessments aligned to the client engagement you'd support.
Which visa types does Synechron commonly use for Data Contributor positions?
Synechron sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization for Data Contributors. The company also accepts F-1 OPT and CPT for eligible students, and uses TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying data roles. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, Synechron has supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through the PERM labor certification process at the DOL.
What qualifications does Synechron expect for Data Contributor roles?
Synechron typically looks for a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, or a closely related field. Practical experience with data ingestion tools, SQL, metadata management, or data cataloging platforms is expected. For client-facing delivery roles, familiarity with financial services data environments, such as trade data, risk reporting, or regulatory feeds, meaningfully strengthens your candidacy over generalist data profiles.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at a company like Synechron?
From offer acceptance to H-1B approval, the process typically spans four to six months if you go through regular USCIS processing, plus any time needed for the DOL Labor Condition Application, which usually takes seven business days. If Synechron files with USCIS premium processing, adjudication drops to 15 business days. Lottery registration happens each March, so your actual start date depends on where you are in the cap cycle.
