Frame your credentials around federal contracting
Tetra Tech wins significant work through U.S. government contracts. Highlight experience with proposal writing, capture management, or client development tied to federal, state, or municipal clients, since that directly matches how Tetra Tech structures its business development function.
Identify which practice area is hiring
Tetra Tech organizes business development by sector, including water, environment, and international development. Target your application to the division that matches your technical background, because BD roles here require sector fluency, not just general sales or relationship management experience.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas. Before you apply, verify that your current status and citizenship align with a category the company actively files. TN is available only to Canadian and Mexican citizens under USMCA.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Business development openings at Tetra Tech span multiple divisions and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles open to your visa type, so you're not spending time on positions where sponsorship isn't on the table.
Align your timeline with H-1B cap deadlines
If you need an H-1B, USCIS registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. Structure your interview and offer timeline accordingly, since a late offer can push your start date back a full year if you miss the cap-subject filing window.
Get your LCA scope right during the offer stage
Before USCIS can approve an H-1B petition, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL. Business development roles at consulting firms sometimes involve client travel or site-based work, so confirm that all expected work locations are covered in the LCA before filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Professionals?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Professionals. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires a degree in business, engineering, environmental science, or a related field relevant to Tetra Tech's practice areas. Your offer letter and the corresponding H-1B petition must demonstrate that the specific position requires that specialized degree background.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly sponsor for Business Development Professional roles?
Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for this role type. F-1 OPT and CPT are most common for recent graduates transitioning from STEM-adjacent programs. TN visa applies to Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying professional categories. H-1B is the primary long-term option for most international professionals not covered by treaty-based categories.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for Business Development Professional positions?
Tetra Tech's BD roles typically require a bachelor's degree in a field relevant to one of its core sectors, such as environmental science, civil engineering, international development, or business with a technical focus. Practical experience with proposal development, client relationship management, or capture strategy in a consulting or government contracting environment strengthens your application significantly.
How do I apply for Business Development Professional jobs at Tetra Tech?
You can find and apply for Business Development Professional positions at Tetra Tech through Migrate Mate, which filters open roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Applications typically require a resume aligned to Tetra Tech's sector focus and may include a screening call with a recruiter followed by panel interviews with the relevant division's leadership.
How do I manage the timing between my job offer and visa filing at Tetra Tech?
If you're on F-1 OPT, you can begin work once your EAD is valid, but you and your employer should start H-1B preparation well before your OPT expires. For cap-subject H-1B petitions, USCIS registration happens each March for an October start. Confirm your authorization end date with Tetra Tech's HR team early in the offer process so the filing timeline is built into your start date.
