Align your degree to project-specific disciplines
Tetra Tech's Development Engineer roles span civil, environmental, and water systems work. Make sure your resume explicitly maps your degree field to the project type you're applying for, since specialty occupation eligibility depends on that direct alignment.
Target offices with active infrastructure portfolios
Tetra Tech operates across dozens of regional offices. Offices tied to federal contracts or municipal infrastructure programs tend to post Development Engineer roles more consistently, so filter your search by the regions with the heaviest project activity.
Ask about H-1B sponsorship timing during offer negotiations
Consulting firms that sponsor H-1B visas typically initiate the LCA filing with the DOL several weeks before the USCIS petition window opens. Ask HR directly where you'd fall in that cycle so you know whether premium processing is a realistic option for your start date.
Build a document package before applications go out
Credential evaluations take two to four weeks from NACES-approved services. For a Development Engineer role at a firm like Tetra Tech, have your transcripts evaluated before you reach the offer stage so nothing delays the I-129 preparation.
Use Migrate Mate to find open roles efficiently
Development Engineer openings at consulting firms can be scattered across job boards with inconsistent visa information. Use Migrate Mate to filter Tetra Tech's current postings by sponsorship type so you're only pursuing roles where your visa status is a confirmed fit.

Find Development Engineer at Tetra Tech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Development Engineers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Development Engineers. As an engineering and consulting firm that regularly hires international talent, Tetra Tech is familiar with the H-1B process, including the DOL Labor Condition Application and USCIS petition filing. If you're currently on OPT or another status, confirm the sponsorship timeline with HR during the offer stage to avoid gaps in work authorization.
How do I apply for Development Engineer jobs at Tetra Tech?
Applications go through Tetra Tech's careers portal, where you can filter by role and location. You can also find Development Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which helps you confirm upfront whether a specific posting supports your visa status. Tailor your application materials to the technical discipline of the role, whether that's water systems, environmental remediation, or infrastructure development.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly use for Development Engineer roles?
Tetra Tech has a history of supporting H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visa holders for engineering roles. Development Engineers coming through university recruiting often start on CPT or OPT, with H-1B sponsorship following once the employment relationship is established. Canadian and Mexican engineers may also qualify for TN status given the engineering occupations listed under the USMCA.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for Development Engineer positions?
Most Development Engineer roles at Tetra Tech require a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline such as civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering. Project-specific experience in areas like water treatment, stormwater management, or infrastructure design strengthens your application significantly. For H-1B purposes, the degree must align directly with the role's duties to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Development Engineer offer at Tetra Tech?
If you're transitioning from OPT to H-1B, the timeline is tied to USCIS's cap-subject filing window, which opens each April 1 for an October 1 start date. The DOL LCA certification alone can take seven to ten business days. If you're already in H-1B status and changing employers, Tetra Tech can file a transfer petition allowing you to start work as soon as USCIS receives it, without waiting for approval.
