Align your credentials to government contracting norms
Tetra Tech wins federal and state contracts where project experience documentation matters. Before applying, organize your credentials around sector-specific work, such as environmental consulting, infrastructure, or public-sector client management, so your background reads as directly transferable.
Target Tetra Tech's sector-specific business development openings
Tetra Tech structures BD roles by service line, including water, environment, and international development. Filter openings by the practice area where your proposal writing or client acquisition experience is strongest, rather than applying broadly across all posted positions.
Clarify sponsorship early in the interview process
Consulting firms that pursue government contracts operate under tight hiring timelines tied to contract awards. Raise your visa status in the first recruiter call so the hiring team can confirm internal approval before you reach the offer stage and avoid delays.
Understand the LCA requirement for your role's location
For H-1B sponsorship, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying the prevailing wage for your position and worksite. Tetra Tech operates across dozens of U.S. offices, so the certified wage obligation will reflect where you are physically based.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open BD roles at Tetra Tech
Business Development Manager openings at Tetra Tech rotate frequently with contract cycles. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsoring employers in consulting and find Tetra Tech postings as they go live, without manually tracking dozens of job boards.
Factor USCIS processing timelines into your start date negotiation
If you need an H-1B transfer or new petition filed, standard USCIS processing runs several months. When you receive an offer, confirm with the HR team whether they budget for premium processing, and negotiate a start date that realistically accommodates the filing window.

Find Business Development Manager at Tetra Tech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Managers, though sponsorship decisions are made on a role-by-role basis. Because Tetra Tech operates across regulated government and environmental contracting sectors, BD roles typically meet the specialty occupation threshold USCIS requires. Confirming sponsorship availability with the recruiter early in the process is the most reliable way to avoid late-stage surprises.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Development Manager roles at Tetra Tech?
H-1B is the most common visa type for full-time professional roles like Business Development Manager at Tetra Tech. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for recent graduates entering BD positions, with OPT STEM extensions applying if the role sits within a qualifying business or technical function. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible professional categories. J-1 is occasionally used for intern or trainee-track positions.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for Business Development Manager candidates?
Tetra Tech BD roles typically require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, engineering, business, or public administration, with several years of experience managing client relationships or pursuing government and municipal contracts. Familiarity with proposal development, contract vehicles like IDIQs, and sector-specific regulatory frameworks strengthens your candidacy significantly compared to general sales experience.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at Tetra Tech?
Applications go through Tetra Tech's careers portal, where openings are listed by service line and geography. For the fastest way to find and track visa-sponsoring BD openings at Tetra Tech, use Migrate Mate, which surfaces positions specifically relevant to candidates who need work authorization. Tailor your resume to the contract sector and client type listed in each posting rather than submitting a generic application.
How do I time my application if I am nearing the end of my OPT?
If your F-1 OPT is running out, the critical window is ensuring your employer files an H-1B petition before your OPT expires, or that a timely filed petition keeps you in authorized stay during adjudication. H-1B cap-subject petitions are only accepted starting April 1 each year for an October 1 start. Begin conversations with Tetra Tech recruiters well before your OPT end date so there is enough time to clear internal approvals and file with USCIS.
