Obtain AWS Certification Before Applying
Texas Health and Human Services Commission maintains state-run facilities with strict safety standards. Having an American Welding Society certification on your resume signals you meet those standards before sponsorship conversations even begin.
Target Facilities Maintenance Postings Specifically
Welder openings at HHSC typically sit within facilities or plant operations departments, not general HR pipelines. Search for postings under maintenance or infrastructure functions to find roles where trade-specific sponsorship is actually on the table.
Browse Open Welder Roles on Migrate Mate
Active Welder postings at Texas Health and Human Services Commission with visa sponsorship can be filtered by role and employer on Migrate Mate, saving you from sorting through listings where sponsorship is unclear or unavailable.
Understand the H-1B Specialty Occupation Standard for Trades
USCIS requires Welder roles to qualify as specialty occupations for H-1B approval, meaning your position needs theoretical and practical application of a body of specialized knowledge. Prepare documentation showing your role goes beyond general labor into technical specialization.
Ask HR Directly About the LCA Filing Timeline
Once you have an offer, confirm with the hiring team when they plan to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL. For state agency employers like HHSC, procurement and HR approval cycles can add weeks before external filings begin.
Prepare Your Work Authorization Documents Early
HHSC participates in E-Verify, so have your work authorization documents organized before your start date. If you're on a current visa with an expiration approaching, flag your status timeline to HR as soon as you receive a conditional offer.

Find Welder at Texas Health and Human Services Commission JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Texas Health and Human Services Commission sponsor H-1B visas for Welders?
Yes, Texas Health and Human Services Commission has sponsored H-1B visas for Welder roles. As a state government employer, HHSC is a cap-exempt H-1B petitioner, which means it can file H-1B petitions year-round without being subject to the annual lottery. That removes one of the biggest obstacles skilled trades workers face with private-sector employers.
Which visa types are commonly used for Welder roles at Texas Health and Human Services Commission?
H-1B is the primary visa pathway for Welders at HHSC. Because HHSC is a state government agency, it qualifies for cap-exempt H-1B filing, bypassing the annual 85,000-slot lottery. Other work visa categories are rarely used for skilled trades roles in state government settings, making H-1B the most practical and direct route.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Welder roles at Texas Health and Human Services Commission?
HHSC Welder roles generally require hands-on experience with structural, pipe, or maintenance welding in institutional or industrial settings. Certifications from the American Welding Society carry significant weight in state facility hiring. Familiarity with safety compliance standards relevant to healthcare or government facilities strengthens your application, as these environments have stricter codes than commercial construction.
How do I apply for Welder jobs at Texas Health and Human Services Commission?
Welder positions at HHSC are posted through the Texas state government jobs portal. You can also browse active openings filtered by employer and visa sponsorship status on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to confirm which postings are open to sponsored candidates. Applying early matters, as state agency hiring timelines can run longer than private-sector equivalents.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for an HHSC Welder role?
Because HHSC is cap-exempt, you're not tied to the April lottery window. Petitions can be filed at any point during the year, which gives you more flexibility. That said, state procurement and HR approval processes can extend the time between a verbal offer and an actual USCIS filing, so build in at least six to eight weeks between offer acceptance and expected start date.
