Align Your Credentials to Texas Licensing Standards
Texas Health and Human Services roles often require state-specific licensure or certification alongside a relevant degree. Verify your credentials meet Texas requirements before applying, and have any foreign academic documents evaluated by a NACES-approved service.
Target Postings That List LCA Wage Requirements
Public-sector employers like HHSC publish salary grades tied to DOL prevailing wage levels. Identify Service Supervisor postings in wage bands where your experience qualifies, since USCIS scrutinizes whether the offered salary meets the LCA-certified wage for your location.
Secure Internal Advocacy Before HR Initiates Filing
Government agencies route H-1B sponsorship through centralized HR approval processes. A direct hiring manager who supports your candidacy can move your file through internal budget and workforce authorization steps faster than applications without a department champion.
Plan Around USCIS Cap-Subject H-1B Timelines
If you need a new H-1B and aren't currently in H-1B status, HHSC must file during the annual April lottery window. Build your job search calendar so you have an offer confirmed by early March to allow time for petition preparation.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Active Sponsorship Openings
Filtering for Service Supervisor roles specifically at agencies with a sponsorship history saves significant research time. Use Migrate Mate to surface HHSC postings that align with your visa type so you focus your applications where sponsorship is already on the table.
Prepare a Specialty Occupation Justification for Your Role
USCIS requires H-1B approval for roles that qualify as specialty occupations. For Service Supervisor positions in public healthcare, document how the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as social work, public health, or healthcare administration.

Find Service Supervisor at Texas Health and Human Services Commission JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Texas Health and Human Services Commission sponsor H-1B visas for Service Supervisors?
Yes, Texas Health and Human Services Commission does sponsor H-1B visas for Service Supervisor roles. As a state government agency, HHSC routes sponsorship through its central HR and legal teams, which means the process is more formalized than at a private employer. Candidates should confirm sponsorship availability directly with the hiring team during the interview process, since not every open posting is pre-approved for sponsorship.
How do I apply for Service Supervisor jobs at Texas Health and Human Services Commission?
Applications for Service Supervisor roles at HHSC are submitted through the Texas state government careers portal. You'll create a CAPPS Recruit account, complete a state application form, and attach your resume and any required certifications. Use Migrate Mate to identify active Service Supervisor postings at HHSC that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're targeting the right openings before heading to the state portal to apply.
Which visa types are commonly used for Service Supervisor roles at Texas Health and Human Services Commission?
The H-1B is the primary visa category used for Service Supervisor positions at HHSC, as these roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a degree in social work, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field. Candidates already holding TN status in qualifying professional categories may also be eligible, though the H-1B remains the most common pathway for this role type at the agency.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Service Supervisor roles at HHSC?
HHSC Service Supervisor positions generally require a bachelor's degree in a human services, healthcare, or social sciences field, combined with direct experience in a supervisory or lead capacity within a health or social service setting. Familiarity with Texas state service delivery systems, Medicaid programs, or managed care processes is frequently listed as a preferred qualifier and can strengthen both your application and the H-1B specialty occupation argument.
How do I understand the H-1B filing timeline if I receive a Service Supervisor offer from HHSC?
If you're not currently in H-1B status, HHSC would need to enter you in the USCIS H-1B lottery, which opens each April for an October 1 start date. Once selected, HHSC's legal team files the petition, and USCIS standard processing runs three to five months. Premium processing, which USCIS offers for an additional fee, can reduce adjudication to around 15 business days if HHSC elects to use it.
