About Thea Energy: Thea Energy is leveraging recent breakthroughs in stellarator physics and engineering to create a faster and simpler approach to commercializing fusion energy. The company is reinventing the stellarator using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils thereby replacing the intricate, complex modular magnets required in all other stellarator architectures. Thea Energy is on a mission to create a limitless source of zero emission energy for a sustainable future.
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated plasma physicist to join our team, focusing on the analysis, simulation, and optimization of the divertor region of a stellarator magnetic field. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in plasma physics, with a particular emphasis on plasma fluid models, neutral particle models, and/or atomic processes within plasmas. Experience with the boundary of fusion devices is a plus. You will work on a dynamic team, contributing to cutting-edge research and development in Thea Energy’s stellarator systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement algorithms for the simulation of fluid plasmas within complex magnetic edge topologies
- Conduct simulations and analyses of collisional edge plasma in stellarators, coupled with neutral-particle and atomic physics models
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design stellarator divertor systems
- Perform data analysis, model validation, and provide insights into the physical mechanisms governing plasma behavior
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications based on design, optimization, and simulation results
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in computational plasma physics, fusion energy, and optimization techniques
Required Experience & Skillsets:
Qualifications
- PhD in Plasma Physics, Computational Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field, or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 5+ years of experience or master’s degree in relevant field with 2+ years of experience
- Strong knowledge of computational plasma physics and numerical simulations
- Experience with the boundary of fusion devices, especially stellarators or tokamaks, is a plus
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in scientific computing (e.g. Python, Fortran, C++, and MATLAB)
- Familiarity with simulation tools used in plasma physics research
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with edge plasma models such as FLARE, DESC, SOLPS, UEDGE, and EMC3-EIRENE
- Experience working on an integrated plasma physics experimental device, ideally a stellarator or tokamak
- Understanding of plasma fluid models and neutral particle models
- Familiarity with Plasma-Material Interactions
- Experience in high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
Personal Attributes:
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage projects
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for advancing the field of fusion energy research
- Willingness to collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and engineers within the company and externally
Company Benefits:
- Salary range $120,000 - $170,000
- Comprehensive health benefits (e.g. medical/dental/vision)
- Employee equity stock options
- 20 days PTO
It’s not necessary to meet all of the skillsets outlined above. Please feel free to send us a note and tell us why you would still be a great fit for this role or Thea Energy.
Diversity and Inclusion: Thea Energy is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a company of diverse backgrounds. By creating a diverse environment, we will bring new ideas and approaches to solving some of the world’s hardest (and most important) problems. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Thea Energy Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target engineering and physics-heavy roles
Thea Energy's work in fusion technology means most sponsored positions sit in advanced engineering, plasma physics, and hardware development. Tailor your application to demonstrate specialized technical skills directly relevant to fusion energy systems.
Understand which visa types Thea Energy supports
Thea Energy sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas. If you're on OPT or CPT, your timeline is compatible with their process, so make your current work authorization status clear from the start.
Apply early given the small team and selective hiring
As an early-stage fusion startup, Thea Energy hires deliberately and in relatively low volumes. Open roles fill quickly, so monitoring their job postings consistently and applying promptly gives you a meaningful advantage.
Highlight research and academic credentials
Fusion energy demands deep scientific expertise. If you hold advanced degrees or have published research in plasma physics, electromagnetics, or related fields, lead with that. It's exactly the profile Thea Energy's technical roles require.
Browse verified sponsorship listings before applying
Confirming a company's real sponsorship history before investing time in an application matters. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus on employers like Thea Energy who have actually filed.
Prepare for a technical-first interview process
Thea Energy operates in a highly specialized Electronics & Hardware domain. Expect rigorous technical interviews covering your engineering or scientific discipline. Reviewing fusion energy fundamentals and stellarator design concepts will strengthen your preparation significantly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thea Energy sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Thea Energy sponsors H-1B visas. The company has an active sponsorship history and has filed H-1B petitions for roles requiring specialized expertise, particularly in engineering and physics disciplines core to its fusion energy work. If you're currently on H-1B status or seeking initial sponsorship, Thea Energy is a legitimate option to pursue in the clean energy sector.
Which visa types does Thea Energy sponsor?
Thea Energy sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visas. This range makes it accessible to a broad set of international candidates, from students on practical training to professionals transferring from TN visa-eligible countries. The company does not have a documented Green Card sponsorship history based on available filing data.
Which departments or roles at Thea Energy are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Thea Energy is concentrated in technically specialized roles. Given the company's focus on stellarator fusion technology, positions in plasma physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, software engineering for hardware systems, and research and development are the most common sponsored categories. Generalist or operations roles are less likely to be sponsored given the company's size and technical mission.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Thea Energy?
Migrate Mate is the most reliable way to find visa-sponsored roles at Thea Energy. The platform verifies sponsorship history from real filing data, so you can confirm Thea Energy's track record before applying. Because the company is small and hires selectively, setting up job alerts ensures you see openings as soon as they're posted rather than discovering them after they've filled.
How do I approach the application timeline for a sponsored role at Thea Energy?
For H-1B sponsorship, your employer must file in April for an October 1 start, so timing your job search for late fall through winter gives you the best chance. If you're on F-1 OPT, Thea Energy can sponsor you while OPT is active, with H-1B cap-gap protections potentially bridging the gap. For TN visa holders, processing is faster since TN status can be obtained at the border without a lengthy petition timeline.
