Align your stack with Thomson Reuters products
Thomson Reuters builds legal, tax, and compliance software. Engineers with experience in Java, Python, cloud infrastructure, or AI-integrated platforms are a stronger fit than generalist candidates, which matters when a petition has to justify specialty occupation status.
Confirm the role before the H-1B lottery
H-1B registration opens in March for an October start date. If you're targeting Thomson Reuters, aim to have an offer confirmed well before the lottery window so your employer can register you in time through USCIS.
Request internal transfer after two years
Once Thomson Reuters files your I-140 and it's approved, your priority date is portable. If your role or team changes, that petition follows you, which protects your place in the Green Card queue even through internal moves.
Distinguish contract from full-time engineering roles
Thomson Reuters posts both direct-hire and contract-to-hire Software Engineer roles. H-1B sponsorship and PERM-based Green Card sponsorship are typically only available through direct employment, so filter for full-time positions when you're targeting sponsorship.
Browse open Software Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Thomson Reuters Software Engineer listings by visa type. It surfaces roles with active sponsorship histories, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than guessing from a generic job posting.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage scrutiny in your specialty
Thomson Reuters operates in high-scrutiny categories like legal tech and enterprise software. The DOL wage determination for your specific Software Engineer role and location affects LCA approval, so understand the prevailing wage level before you negotiate your offer.

Find Software Engineer at Thomson Reuters JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thomson Reuters sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Thomson Reuters sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers. The company has an established immigration process for this function, covering both initial H-1B petitions and extensions. Sponsorship is generally available for direct full-time roles rather than contract positions, so confirming your employment type during the offer stage is an important early step.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Thomson Reuters?
Applications go through the Thomson Reuters careers portal. You can also browse open Software Engineer roles at Thomson Reuters that have a sponsorship track record using Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type and makes it easier to identify positions where H-1B or Green Card sponsorship is a realistic outcome before you invest time in applying.
Which visa types does Thomson Reuters commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
Thomson Reuters sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers, which is the primary nonimmigrant work visa for this role. For longer-term permanent residence, the company supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification. Engineers typically start on H-1B and transition to PERM sponsorship after demonstrating strong performance in their role.
What qualifications does Thomson Reuters expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Thomson Reuters generally expects a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. The company builds legal, tax, and compliance platforms, so experience with enterprise software development, cloud services, or AI tooling strengthens an application. The degree requirement also matters directly for H-1B specialty occupation qualification under USCIS standards.
How do I time my application around the H-1B process at Thomson Reuters?
The H-1B cap lottery runs in March, with employment starting October 1 if selected. To meet that window, you need an offer and a registered petition before the lottery closes. Targeting Thomson Reuters Software Engineer roles in late 2025 or early 2026 gives you enough lead time to align an offer with the filing timeline and avoid a full-year delay if you miss the registration window.
