Align your credentials with PE licensure pathways
Thornton Tomasetti values engineers progressing toward Professional Engineer licensure. Before applying, document your EIT status or equivalent foreign credentials so hiring managers can immediately assess your trajectory within U.S. licensing requirements.
Target project types matching your specialization
Thornton Tomasetti's civil work spans structural assessments, transportation infrastructure, and resilience projects. Tailor your portfolio and resume to the specific practice group you're targeting, since sponsorship decisions often sit with individual practice leaders.
Understand how E-3 eligibility simplifies your candidacy
Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and can be processed at a U.S. consulate in as little as a few weeks. If you're eligible, explicitly mention this in conversations with Thornton Tomasetti's HR team to reduce perceived sponsorship friction.
Use Migrate Mate to find open civil roles by visa type
Civil Project Engineer openings at Thornton Tomasetti are listed on Migrate Mate, filtered by the visa types they sponsor. Search by role and sponsorship category to identify positions where your specific visa situation is already a known fit.

Find Civil Project Engineer at Thornton Tomasetti JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thornton Tomasetti sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
Yes, Thornton Tomasetti sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual lottery, timing matters: your employer must submit your registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer petition avoids the lottery entirely and lets you start sooner.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at Thornton Tomasetti?
You can find and apply for Civil Project Engineer openings at Thornton Tomasetti through Migrate Mate, which lists their roles filtered by visa sponsorship type. Applications go through Thornton Tomasetti's careers portal. Prepare a resume that highlights relevant project experience, your degree discipline, and your current visa or work authorization status so recruiters can assess fit immediately.
Which visa types does Thornton Tomasetti commonly sponsor for Civil Project Engineers?
Thornton Tomasetti sponsors a range of visa types for Civil Project Engineers, including H-1B, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1, and EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas for longer-term pathways. The right visa depends on your nationality, education level, and career stage.
What qualifications does Thornton Tomasetti expect for Civil Project Engineer roles?
Thornton Tomasetti typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program, along with relevant project experience in consulting or infrastructure. Progress toward Professional Engineer licensure is a strong differentiator. For H-1B eligibility, your degree must directly relate to the role, so field alignment between your credential and the job description matters.
How do I manage my visa timeline during the Thornton Tomasetti hiring process?
Share your visa expiration date and work authorization type with the recruiter as early as possible. If you're on OPT, factor in the 60-day grace period if your previous employment has ended. For H-1B transfers, USCIS allows you to start with the new employer once the transfer petition is filed, even before approval, which reduces gaps in employment.
