Align your credentials with PE licensure expectations
Gresham Smith frequently hires Civil Project Engineers who are EIT-certified or actively pursuing PE licensure. Having your NCEES records and foreign credential evaluation ready signals you're already moving through the U.S. licensure pipeline, which matters to engineering hiring managers.
Target roles tied to active infrastructure contracts
Gresham Smith's civil engineering work spans DOT projects, site development, and utility infrastructure. Applying to openings tied to active public contracts strengthens your case, since funded project backlogs give employers a concrete business reason to file an H-1B petition quickly.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Civil Project Engineer openings
Sponsorship-eligible civil engineering roles aren't always labeled clearly on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Civil Project Engineer positions at Gresham Smith filtered by visa type, so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is on the table.
Prepare your LCA documentation before the offer stage
For H-1B sponsorship, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS ever sees your petition. Knowing your intended work location and project assignment in advance helps Gresham Smith's HR team move the LCA filing forward without delays.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility early in the process
Civil engineering is a STEM-designated field, so F-1 students on OPT can apply for a 24-month STEM extension. Flagging this to your Gresham Smith recruiter early means the company can plan around your full authorized work window rather than treating your OPT end date as a hard stop.
Understand PERM timing if you're targeting a Green Card path
EB-2 and EB-3 PERM sponsorship involves DOL prevailing wage determinations and recruitment documentation that takes months before USCIS filing. Raising this in the offer negotiation, not after onboarding, gives you a realistic picture of the Green Card timeline at Gresham Smith.

Find Civil Project Engineer at Gresham Smith JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Gresham Smith sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
Yes, Gresham Smith sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers. Civil engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, and Gresham Smith has a history of filing petitions for engineering roles across its infrastructure and land development practices. Sponsorship is typically tied to full-time project assignments, so roles connected to active contracts move through the process more predictably.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at Gresham Smith?
You can browse and apply for Civil Project Engineer openings at Gresham Smith directly through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm sponsorship is available before applying. Gresham Smith posts openings across multiple practice areas, so filtering by civil or infrastructure engineering helps narrow to the most relevant positions for your background.
Which visa types does Gresham Smith commonly use for Civil Project Engineer roles?
Gresham Smith sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers in specialty occupation roles, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. For candidates on the TN visa pathway, civil engineering is a qualifying occupation under USMCA for Canadian and Mexican nationals. For longer-term immigration, Gresham Smith has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for engineering staff.
What qualifications does Gresham Smith expect for Civil Project Engineer roles?
Gresham Smith typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or an equivalent foreign credential evaluated for U.S. equivalency. EIT certification is commonly expected, with PE licensure preferred for more senior project roles. Practical experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, stormwater design, or transportation infrastructure strengthens applications significantly across Gresham Smith's core service lines.
How do I plan my timeline if Gresham Smith is sponsoring my H-1B?
The H-1B cap opens for registration each March, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. If you're on F-1 OPT, your employment authorization needs to bridge that gap, which is where the 24-month STEM OPT extension becomes critical for civil engineers. Engaging your Gresham Smith HR contact well before the March registration window gives you the best chance of being included in that year's filing cycle.
