Align Your PE Credentials with Gresham's Markets
Gresham Smith operates heavily in transportation, water, and site development. Highlighting licensure progress or state PE reciprocity in markets where they have active offices signals readiness for billable project work, which directly influences sponsorship decisions for Civil Engineer hires.
Target Offices in High-Activity Infrastructure States
Gresham Smith has offices across the Southeast, Midwest, and Sun Belt, where infrastructure investment is concentrated. Applying to offices in states with active DOT or municipal contracts increases your odds of joining a team with immediate staffing needs and established sponsorship workflows.
Clarify LCA and PERM Timelines Early in Negotiations
For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, DOL's PERM labor certification can take 12 to 18 months or longer. Raising this in the offer stage, not after you've accepted, lets you understand Gresham Smith's typical sponsorship sequencing for Civil Engineers before you're locked in.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Civil Engineer Roles
Search Migrate Mate to filter Civil Engineer openings at Gresham Smith by visa type and location. Targeting roles where the firm has sponsored your specific visa category before reduces the risk of applying to positions where sponsorship approval is uncertain.
Demonstrate Project Delivery Experience, Not Just Design Skills
Gresham Smith's Civil Engineer roles frequently require coordination across subconsultants, permitting agencies, and contractors. Framing your resume around project milestones, agency submittals, and construction phase responsibilities positions you for roles where headcount justification for sponsorship is straightforward.

Does Gresham Smith sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Engineers?
Yes, Gresham Smith has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Civil Engineers. The firm operates in infrastructure sectors with specialized staffing needs, which supports the specialty occupation case required for H-1B approval. If you're on F-1 OPT or another status with limited runway, confirming sponsorship intent early in the interview process is the right move.
How do I apply for Civil Engineer jobs at Gresham Smith?
You can browse and apply for Civil Engineer openings at Gresham Smith directly through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can identify positions aligned with your immigration status. Gresham Smith also posts roles on its own careers page. Applying directly to office locations with active project pipelines in your discipline tends to produce faster responses.
Which visa types does Gresham Smith commonly use for Civil Engineers?
Gresham Smith has sponsored Civil Engineers under H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT for students in active engineering programs, J-1 for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree level, and how much time you have remaining on your current status.
What qualifications does Gresham Smith expect for Civil Engineer roles?
Most Civil Engineer positions at Gresham Smith require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited program. Many roles expect experience in transportation, site civil, or water systems depending on the practice group. EIT certification is common for early-career roles, and PE licensure is typically required or expected for senior-level positions. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar software is a standard expectation.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take after receiving an offer from Gresham Smith?
For H-1B, USCIS standard processing takes three to five months after filing, which happens once each April for an October 1 start. Premium processing reduces that to roughly two to three weeks. For Green Card sponsorship through PERM, the full process from labor certification through I-140 approval typically takes two to four years. TN classification for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border on the day of entry, making it the fastest path where eligible.
