Align your credentials with PE licensure expectations
Gresham Smith regularly works on complex infrastructure and institutional projects where PE licensure matters. If you're pre-licensure, confirm your degree is ABET-accredited and document your EIT status clearly, as this affects how quickly you can contribute on stamped drawings.
Target roles tied to active project pipelines
Structural Project Engineers at Gresham Smith are often hired ahead of project mobilization. Search for openings aligned with their healthcare, aviation, or transportation portfolios, where structural demand tends to be sustained across multi-year project timelines rather than one-off contracts.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Gresham Smith roles
Gresham Smith posts Structural Project Engineer positions across multiple offices and markets. Use Migrate Mate to filter their current openings by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is confirmed rather than assumed.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline before the first interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, be upfront about your authorization end date and STEM extension eligibility. Gresham Smith's HR teams need lead time to prepare H-1B filings, and ambiguity about your work authorization window can stall an otherwise strong offer.
Understand how PERM timing affects your long-term plan
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, PERM labor certification can take a year or more before USCIS even sees your petition. Ask during the offer stage whether Gresham Smith initiates PERM early or waits until after H-1B approval, since the sequencing directly affects your Green Card timeline.
Demonstrate project delivery experience in technical interviews
Gresham Smith's structural teams emphasize project execution alongside design competency. Prepare to discuss specific structural systems you've designed, software you've used such as ETABS or RISA, and how you've coordinated with civil or MEP disciplines on multidisciplinary project teams.

Find Structural Project Engineer at Gresham Smith JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Gresham Smith sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, Gresham Smith sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers. The firm operates across construction and infrastructure markets that rely on specialized engineering talent, and H-1B sponsorship is an established part of their hiring process for this role. Confirm sponsorship availability for a specific opening before applying, as not every position may be designated for sponsorship.
Which visa types does Gresham Smith commonly use for Structural Project Engineers?
Gresham Smith sponsors H-1B visas as the primary work authorization pathway for Structural Project Engineers. They also support F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican engineers who qualify under USMCA, J-1 for certain exchange arrangements, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa categories for long-term permanent residence sponsorship.
What qualifications does Gresham Smith expect for Structural Project Engineer roles?
Gresham Smith typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited program, along with hands-on experience in structural analysis and design. Proficiency in industry software such as ETABS, SAP2000, or RISA is expected. EIT certification is common at the project engineer level, and PE licensure is advantageous for senior responsibilities involving stamped drawings.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at Gresham Smith?
Browse current Structural Project Engineer openings at Gresham Smith through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can identify confirmed sponsorship opportunities directly. Applications are submitted through Gresham Smith's careers portal. Tailor your resume to reflect structural project delivery experience and reference any relevant licensure or software expertise to strengthen your application.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take if I receive an offer from Gresham Smith?
If you're not already in H-1B status, the standard cap-subject process requires registration in the USCIS lottery, which opens each March for an October 1 start date. If selected, Gresham Smith files the petition and USCIS processing takes roughly three to five months, or faster with premium processing. Cap-exempt transfers from another H-1B employer can begin sooner, often within a few weeks of filing.
