Target Faculty and Research Roles First
University of Detroit Mercy's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. Focus your search on faculty, postdoctoral, and research staff openings where international hiring and H-1B sponsorship are most consistently offered.
Understand Their Dual Sponsorship Pathway
Detroit Mercy supports both H-1B and Green Card sponsorship, which is significant for long-term career planning. When applying, ask directly whether the role includes a path to permanent residence, many academic positions do.
Highlight Your Specialty Occupation Credentials
H-1B eligibility requires a specialty occupation tied to your degree. For a university employer like Detroit Mercy, emphasize your advanced degree and how your qualifications directly match the academic or professional field of the role.
Apply Early in the Academic Hiring Cycle

Sponsorship at Detroit Mercy is most common in academic departments hiring tenure-track or visiting faculty, research-focused units, and specialized professional staff roles in areas like engineering, health sciences, and business.
