Align Your Credentials to U.S. Standards
Academic medical centers like UK evaluate Patient Service Specialist candidates on customer-facing healthcare experience and familiarity with U.S. billing systems like Epic. If your credentials are from outside the U.S., document equivalent training clearly so hiring managers can assess your background without guesswork.
Target UK Health System Departments Directly
University of Kentucky operates multiple clinical sites and specialty departments, each posting Patient Service Specialist roles independently. Search UK HealthCare's careers portal by department rather than job title alone to catch openings that may not surface in aggregated job boards.
Browse Verified Sponsoring Roles on Migrate Mate
Filter Patient Service Specialist openings at University of Kentucky on Migrate Mate to surface only roles where sponsorship is confirmed. This saves you from applying to positions where immigration support is ambiguous or unavailable.
Understand J-1 Waiver Implications Before Accepting
University of Kentucky operates J-1 exchange programs, and some healthcare roles are filled through that pathway. If you are finishing a J-1 and need a waiver before switching to H-1B status, confirm UK's willingness to sponsor the waiver during the offer stage, not after signing.
Ask HR About Cap-Exempt H-1B Filing Early
As a public research university, UK may qualify as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning you can file outside the April lottery window. Confirm this directly with HR during the offer negotiation so you and your attorney can plan an accurate filing timeline with USCIS.

Does University of Kentucky sponsor H-1B visas for Patient Service Specialists?
Yes, University of Kentucky does sponsor H-1B visas for Patient Service Specialist roles. As a public research university, UK may qualify as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means petitions can be filed year-round rather than only during the April lottery. You should confirm cap-exempt status with UK's HR or international services office during the offer process, since this affects your filing timeline significantly.
How do I apply for Patient Service Specialist jobs at University of Kentucky?
Applications go through UK's official careers portal at uky.edu/hr/jobs. Search for Patient Service Specialist under the UK HealthCare section to find active openings across departments. You can also browse verified sponsorship-confirmed openings on Migrate Mate, which filters roles where UK has a demonstrated track record of supporting international candidates, saving you time and reducing uncertainty before you apply.
Which visa types does University of Kentucky commonly use for Patient Service Specialist roles?
University of Kentucky supports several visa categories for Patient Service Specialist positions, including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1 for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for permanent residency. The appropriate category depends on your nationality, educational background, and current immigration status at the time of hiring.
What qualifications and experience does University of Kentucky expect for Patient Service Specialist roles?
UK HealthCare typically looks for experience in patient-facing administrative healthcare settings, familiarity with scheduling systems like Epic, and strong communication skills suited to a clinical environment. Some postings specify a high school diploma or equivalent as the minimum education requirement, while others prefer medical office or healthcare administration experience. Customer service backgrounds from comparable industries can be competitive if paired with healthcare-specific coursework or certifications.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Patient Service Specialist at University of Kentucky?
Timeline depends on visa type. For F-1 OPT, your employer registers in E-Verify and your authorization begins close to your start date. For H-1B under cap-exempt filing, USCIS standard processing runs three to six months, with premium processing available for a faster decision. Green Card pathways through PERM and EB-3 typically take two or more years from PERM filing through I-140 approval, so early planning with UK's HR team matters.
