Target research and STEM departments first
The University of Kentucky's sponsorship activity is concentrated in research-intensive and technical roles. Focus your search on departments like engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and data science, where specialty occupation requirements naturally align with H-1B eligibility.
Understand UK's academic hiring calendar
University hiring follows a structured academic calendar, with most faculty and research positions posted in the fall for spring start dates. Applying during peak hiring windows improves your chances of securing a role before H-1B cap deadlines.
Ask about TN visa eligibility early
If you're a Canadian or Mexican national, the University of Kentucky sponsors TN visas for qualifying professional roles. Raise this in your first conversation with HR, TN processing is faster and simpler than H-1B, making it a practical alternative.
Leverage OPT and CPT to build your candidacy
UK actively supports F-1 students through OPT and CPT. If you're completing a degree at a U.S. institution, using OPT to work with UK first is a strong strategy for eventually securing H-1B sponsorship as a proven internal candidate.
Position yourself for long-term sponsorship including Green Cards
UK sponsors both H-1B and employment-based Green Cards, making it a viable long-term employer for international workers. When discussing your candidacy, signal your interest in building a career at UK, not just filling a short-term gap.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified open roles at UK
