Verify Your Clinical Credentials Before Applying
Kentucky requires state-specific CNA or healthcare aide certification for most patient-facing roles. Confirm your credentials transfer or that you can complete state reciprocity steps before submitting applications, since credential gaps stall sponsorship timelines at the offer stage.
Target UK HealthCare Postings Separately from Campus Roles
University of Kentucky posts Healthcare Assistant openings through both its main HR portal and UK HealthCare's dedicated careers page. Roles listed under UK HealthCare typically sit within clinical departments that have more established international hiring pipelines.
Ask Directly About Sponsorship During Screening Calls
University HR processes vary by department and funding source. During your initial recruiter call, ask which visa types the specific hiring department has used for this role. This tells you whether sponsorship is routine there or requires internal approval escalation.
Understand TN Status Timing for Canadian and Mexican Applicants
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN status can be arranged at the port of entry with an offer letter and supporting documents, without USCIS filing wait times. This makes it one of the faster paths to starting a Healthcare Assistant role.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Healthcare Assistant Openings
University of Kentucky posts Healthcare Assistant roles across multiple portals and the listings aren't always tagged for sponsorship eligibility. Use Migrate Mate to filter and track openings at University of Kentucky that align with your visa type and clinical background.
Request the H-1B Timeline from HR Before Accepting an Offer
H-1B cap-subject filings require USCIS lottery registration each March and an October 1 start date. If you're outside cap-exempt status, confirm with University of Kentucky's HR team whether the role qualifies for a cap-exempt filing through its academic medical designation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of Kentucky sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Yes, University of Kentucky sponsors H-1B visas, and its status as a nonprofit educational institution means it may qualify as a cap-exempt H-1B employer for roles tied directly to its academic or research mission. Whether a specific Healthcare Assistant position qualifies for cap-exempt filing depends on the department and role structure, so confirm this with the HR team during the offer process.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at University of Kentucky?
Applications go through University of Kentucky's official HR jobs portal, and UK HealthCare posts clinical roles on its own careers page as well. You'll create a profile, submit your resume, and answer screening questions about your work authorization. Which visa types does University of Kentucky commonly use for Healthcare Assistant roles?
University of Kentucky sponsors H-1B, J-1 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Healthcare Assistant roles, as well as employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. J-1 visa is common for international clinical exchange participants, while TN visa applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare occupations. F-1 OPT is frequently used by international students completing health-related degree programs.
What qualifications does University of Kentucky expect for Healthcare Assistant positions?
Most Healthcare Assistant roles at University of Kentucky require a current Kentucky CNA certification or state-recognized equivalent, along with Basic Life Support certification. Clinical experience in a hospital or long-term care setting is preferred. Roles within UK HealthCare's acute care units often expect prior exposure to electronic health records systems and may require department-specific training completed after hire.
How do I time my application if I'm on F-1 OPT and targeting a Healthcare Assistant role?
F-1 OPT gives you up to 12 months of post-graduation work authorization, with a 60-day grace period between jobs. Apply early enough that an offer, credential verification, and any onboarding clearances clear before your OPT end date. If your degree is in a STEM-qualifying field, a 24-month OPT extension may apply, giving more runway before an H-1B filing becomes necessary.
