Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Research and Faculty Affairs (RFA) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) supports faculty, staff, and students in advancing sponsored programs, research and scholarship, innovation, and faculty development across the faculty life cycle. The office works to strengthen the college’s research and scholarly environment by providing comprehensive support for externally and internally funded activities.
RFA supports these efforts through a range of services including pre-award and post-award sponsored program support, statistical and methodological consultation, grant editing and proposal development assistance, faculty success initiatives, facilitation of new interdisciplinary collaborations, leadership development, and support for reappointment, promotion, and tenure (RPT) processes. The office also assists with other faculty-related needs that contribute to professional growth and research productivity.
The CHHS Grant Administrator is a member of the Office of Research and Faculty Affairs’ core support team and plays a key role in facilitating sponsored program activity across the college. This position works closely with the RFA team, the university’s Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance (SPARC) office, and other college administrative units to support faculty in the development, submission, and management of funded projects. The position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs and collaborates with campus partners to ensure effective coordination of grant administration and compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Responsibilities include:
- Managing a portfolio of externally funded grants and internal awards, providing comprehensive administrative and financial oversight throughout the lifecycle of each project.
- Independently managing the financial aspects of sponsored programs, including monitoring budgets, reviewing expenditures, forecasting spending, and ensuring compliance with sponsor and university policies.
- Supporting faculty throughout the pre-award process, including proposal development, budget preparation, coordination of submission materials, and guidance on sponsor requirements in collaboration with Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance.
- Providing post-award administrative support to faculty and project teams, including coordination of personnel appointments, purchasing, subaward administration, tuition support, and travel related to sponsored projects.
- Assisting with faculty development and research capacity-building efforts by providing guidance on grant processes, supporting proposal planning, and helping faculty navigate funding opportunities and administrative requirements associated with sponsored programs.
- Developing and maintaining tracking systems to monitor grant activity, including salary allocations, subawards, and other project expenditures to ensure accurate financial oversight and appropriate use of funds.
- Exercising independent judgment to proactively identify potential financial, administrative, or compliance issues and implement solutions before they impact project timelines or sponsor requirements.
- Preparing financial reports, budget analyses, and spending projections to support faculty and college leadership in the effective management of sponsored project funds.
- Reviewing, evaluating, and authorizing payment of subaward and subcontractor invoices, ensuring expenditures align with project budgets, sponsor guidelines, and federal cost allowability principles.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

- Two years of experience in university business administration, grant and contract administration, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Experience working with university research administration and financial systems such as OSPREY, InfoEd Global, and Banner, or comparable enterprise systems.
