Target faculty and research roles first
University of Wyoming's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. Focus your search on faculty openings, postdoctoral roles, and research staff positions, these are where international candidates are most likely to find sponsorship support.
Understand the academic hiring calendar
University hiring in higher education follows a predictable cycle. Faculty searches typically open in fall for positions starting the following academic year. Applying early in the cycle gives you the best chance of being considered before sponsorship decisions are made.
Ask about H-1B support during the offer stage
University of Wyoming has an active H-1B sponsorship track record. When you reach the offer stage, ask the HR or international office directly about their process, most universities have a dedicated office that handles immigration petitions for faculty and staff.
Check if your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility at a university still requires a specialty occupation determination. Engineering, science, IT, and business roles typically qualify. If your role is interdisciplinary, clarify with the hiring department whether a degree requirement is formally tied to the position.
Explore J-1 as an entry point
University of Wyoming sponsors J-1 visas, which are common for visiting scholars and exchange researchers. If you're earlier in your career, a J-1 role can be a practical way to build a relationship with the institution before pursuing long-term H-1B or Green Card sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified openings
