Align your cloud certifications with Viasat's stack
Viasat's cloud engineering work spans network infrastructure and satellite systems, so certifications in AWS, Azure, or GCP carry weight. Frame your credentials around distributed systems or edge computing rather than generic web application development.
Target Viasat's defense and government contracts division
A portion of Viasat's engineering work touches government and defense programs. Roles in those divisions may require security clearance eligibility, which affects visa sponsorship timelines, so identify which job postings are clearance-gated before applying.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Viasat's open Cloud Software Engineer roles
Viasat posts across multiple job boards, and not all listings signal sponsorship availability equally. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles at Viasat verified for visa sponsorship so you apply to the right positions from the start.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline during the interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, Viasat's HR team will need to confirm your work authorization end date early. Raising this in the offer stage rather than post-acceptance avoids delays and gives the employer time to prepare an H-1B cap filing if your OPT expires before October 1.
Prepare documentation that demonstrates specialty occupation status
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions where the role title is broad. For a Cloud Software Engineer position, gather evidence that your specific duties require at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a directly related field.

Find Cloud Software Engineer at Viasat JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Viasat sponsor H-1B visas for Cloud Software Engineers?
Yes, Viasat sponsors H-1B visas for Cloud Software Engineer roles. The company has a track record of filing H-1B petitions for technical positions, and its HR and legal teams are experienced with the cap-subject process. If you receive an offer, confirm the sponsorship scope early, including whether Viasat covers premium processing, since USCIS standard processing can take several months.
How do I apply for Cloud Software Engineer jobs at Viasat?
You can apply through Viasat's careers portal directly or browse verified sponsorship-eligible listings on Migrate Mate. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific team, whether that is satellite ground systems, enterprise networking, or government solutions. Viasat's engineering interviews typically include system design rounds and coding assessments, so prepare for both before submitting.
Which visa types does Viasat commonly use for Cloud Software Engineer roles?
Viasat works with several visa categories for Cloud Software Engineers, including H-1B, F-1 OPT and CPT, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, J-1 for certain exchange programs, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 or EB-3 for longer-term sponsorship. The right category depends on your nationality, current status, and where you are in your career. TN is often faster for eligible candidates already in the U.S.
What qualifications does Viasat expect for Cloud Software Engineer positions?
Viasat's Cloud Software Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field. Practical experience with cloud platforms, containerization tools like Kubernetes or Docker, and distributed systems design is commonly expected. For roles supporting defense or satellite network infrastructure, familiarity with high-availability systems or real-time data processing is an advantage over general-purpose web development backgrounds.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship to work at Viasat?
The H-1B lottery registration opens each March, with cap-subject petitions filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If you are currently on F-1 OPT, you may be able to start before October 1 and transition to H-1B status when the petition takes effect. USCIS premium processing can reduce approval wait times to roughly two to three weeks if Viasat elects to use it. Plan your offer acceptance and notice period around these fixed government deadlines.
