Target Viasat's core engineering disciplines
Viasat's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical roles, satellite systems, RF engineering, software development, and defense electronics. Positioning your application around these areas gives you the strongest alignment with where Viasat actively sponsors international talent.
Understand Viasat's Green Card commitment
Viasat has a strong track record of sponsoring permanent residency, not just work visas. If long-term U.S. settlement is your goal, ask recruiters early about their EB-2 and EB-3 pathways, this is a company that invests in retaining international employees.
Highlight clearance eligibility if applicable
Viasat works heavily in defense and government communications. Roles in those divisions often require or prefer security clearance eligibility, which can narrow competition. If you're clearance-eligible as a visa holder, make that explicit in your application materials.
Use OPT and CPT as your entry point
Viasat sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, making it accessible for international students early in their careers. An internship or OPT role can position you for H-1B sponsorship before your work authorization expires, start building that relationship well before graduation.
Filter for verified sponsors before you apply
Not every job posting signals genuine sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, browse Viasat's open roles there to confirm current sponsorship activity before investing time in an application.
Tailor your resume to Viasat's hardware and systems focus
Viasat operates at the intersection of hardware, communications, and defense software. Generic software resumes underperform here. Emphasize systems-level work, embedded development, or hardware integration experience to match the technical depth Viasat's hiring teams look for in sponsored roles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Viasat sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Viasat sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying technical roles. Sponsorship is most common in engineering disciplines including satellite communications, RF systems, software engineering, and defense electronics. Viasat also has a consistent track record of supporting Green Card filings for employees on H-1B status, which makes it a strong long-term option for international professionals.
Which visa types does Viasat sponsor?
Viasat sponsors a range of visa types including H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students and early-career professionals. The company also sponsors permanent residency through EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways. This breadth makes Viasat accessible at multiple stages of an international professional's U.S. career trajectory.
Which departments or roles at Viasat are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Viasat is concentrated in technical and engineering functions, satellite systems engineering, RF and antenna design, embedded software, cybersecurity, and network architecture. The company's defense and government solutions division also hires internationally for specialized roles. Business, operations, and non-technical roles are less commonly sponsored, so focusing your search on engineering and technical teams gives you the best odds.
How do I find visa-sponsored job openings at Viasat?
The most reliable approach is to use Migrate Mate, which aggregates verified sponsorship data so you can browse Viasat's current openings and confirm active sponsorship before applying. On Viasat's own careers page, look for roles in engineering and defense technology divisions, and review the job description for language explicitly indicating sponsorship availability for your visa type.
How do I approach the hiring process at Viasat as a visa sponsorship candidate?
Disclose your visa status early, ideally in your initial application or recruiter screen. Viasat has established processes for sponsorship, so recruiters are familiar with the timeline. For H-1B candidates, the annual April lottery means timing matters. If you're on OPT or CPT, reaching out well before your authorization expires gives both you and Viasat enough runway to complete the H-1B petition process without a gap.
