Tailor your resume to healthcare administration
WakeMed's Administrative Assistant roles often require familiarity with medical terminology, scheduling systems like Epic, and HIPAA compliance. Highlighting these directly on your resume signals you can contribute from day one in a clinical setting.
Research WakeMed's departmental hiring patterns
WakeMed posts Administrative Assistant openings across departments from oncology to surgical services. Identifying which units hire most consistently helps you prioritize applications and tailor your cover letter to that department's workflow.
Use Migrate Mate to filter WakeMed openings
Sorting by employer and role type saves significant time when targeting a specific company. Use Migrate Mate to filter Administrative Assistant jobs at WakeMed by visa type so you only pursue postings aligned with your sponsorship eligibility.
Ask about sponsorship intent before interviews advance
Healthcare employers vary on whether sponsorship is decided centrally by HR or by individual department managers. During your WakeMed recruiter screen, ask directly whether the open Administrative Assistant position has prior sponsorship approval, not just general company policy.
Prepare for Green Card timeline discussions early
WakeMed has filed EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for staff, which involve PERM labor certification through the DOL and can take one to several years. Understanding this timeline before you receive an offer helps you negotiate start dates and any OPT cap-gap coverage you may need.

Find Administrative Assistant at WakeMed JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does WakeMed sponsor H-1B visas for Administrative Assistants?
WakeMed has sponsored H-1B visas for employees, including in administrative functions. That said, H-1B eligibility requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which can be a higher bar for Administrative Assistant positions than for clinical or technical roles. Confirming the specific job description aligns with specialty occupation criteria before applying is important.
How do I apply for Administrative Assistant jobs at WakeMed?
You can apply through WakeMed's careers portal on their website, where Administrative Assistant openings are listed by department and location. Migrate Mate also aggregates WakeMed Administrative Assistant postings filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it faster to identify roles that match your work authorization. Submitting a tailored resume that reflects healthcare administrative experience strengthens your application.
Which visa types are commonly used for Administrative Assistant roles at WakeMed?
WakeMed has supported H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for employees. For Administrative Assistant roles specifically, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals and F-1 OPT for recent graduates are practical near-term options. Longer-term, EB-3 sponsorship through PERM labor certification is the most common Green Card route for administrative staff at large healthcare systems.
What qualifications does WakeMed expect for Administrative Assistant candidates?
WakeMed typically looks for candidates with prior administrative experience in a healthcare or clinical setting, proficiency with electronic health record platforms such as Epic, and strong communication skills for coordinating across medical departments. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical terminology is a consistent differentiator. Some postings also specify an associate or bachelor's degree, which can support certain visa sponsorship pathways.
How do I plan my timeline around WakeMed's visa sponsorship process?
If you're on F-1 OPT, factor in that H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year with an April 1 filing window, meaning a fall start date may require careful sequencing. TN visas for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals have no annual cap and can be processed faster. For EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, PERM labor certification through the DOL typically adds one to two years before the petition stage even begins.
