Verify your ARRT credentials before applying
WakeMed requires ARRT certification for radiologic tech roles. International applicants should confirm their credentials are recognized or transferable before submitting applications, as missing certification is the most common reason offers fall through at the credential-check stage.
Target WakeMed's high-volume imaging departments
WakeMed operates multiple hospital campuses and outpatient imaging centers across Wake County. Applying to locations with consistent radiologic tech openings, like their Raleigh main campus, improves your chances of landing a role with an active hiring budget and sponsorship approval.
Understand which visa pathway fits your situation
WakeMed sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT or CPT for this role. TN is fastest for Canadian and Mexican nationals with a radiologic technology credential. F-1 OPT lets you start immediately after graduation while the employer initiates longer-term sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to filter WakeMed radiologic tech openings
Searching general job boards won't show you which postings are open to sponsored candidates. Migrate Mate filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers like WakeMed, so you spend time on applications that can actually move forward.
Ask HR directly about PERM timeline expectations
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, ask WakeMed's HR team when they typically initiate PERM after hire. DOL PERM processing can take 12 to 18 months, and knowing their internal policy helps you plan your status transitions accurately.
Align your offer letter timing with H-1B cap deadlines
H-1B registration opens in March each year for an October 1 start. If you receive an offer from WakeMed in late spring or summer, work with their HR team to confirm whether a cap-exempt filing or the next lottery cycle applies to your situation.

Does WakeMed sponsor H-1B visas for Radiologic Techs?
Yes, WakeMed sponsors H-1B visas for Radiologic Tech roles. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires specialized knowledge in diagnostic imaging and, typically, a degree in radiologic technology along with ARRT certification. Your employer files the H-1B petition with USCIS after securing a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL.
How do I apply for Radiologic Tech jobs at WakeMed?
You can browse and apply for Radiologic Tech openings at WakeMed through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles open to visa-sponsored candidates. When applying, make sure your resume reflects your ARRT certification status, clinical modality experience, and any U.S. clinical hours, since WakeMed's imaging teams look for hands-on experience across CT, MRI, or general radiography.
Which visa types does WakeMed commonly use for Radiologic Tech roles?
WakeMed sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 or EB-3 for Radiologic Tech positions. TN is the most straightforward option for Canadian and Mexican nationals holding a radiologic technology qualification. F-1 OPT works well for recent graduates who need time to complete the transition to a longer-term sponsored status.
What qualifications does WakeMed expect for Radiologic Tech roles?
WakeMed expects candidates to hold ARRT certification in radiography or a related imaging modality and, in most cases, an associate or bachelor's degree in radiologic technology. Practical experience in at least one primary modality, such as CT, fluoroscopy, or general X-ray, is standard. Candidates should also be eligible for North Carolina licensure before their start date.
How do I understand the sponsorship timeline for a WakeMed Radiologic Tech offer?
Timeline depends on your visa type. F-1 OPT lets you start within 90 days of program completion with minimal employer lead time. H-1B requires cap registration in March and an October 1 start, meaning offers extended outside that window may involve a gap or a bridge status. For Green Card sponsorship through EB-3, expect the full PERM and I-140 process to run 18 to 36 months after hire.
