Obtain State Certification Before Applying
North Carolina requires Nurse Aide I certification for most Healthcare Assistant roles. Complete your CNA training and get listed on the NC Nurse Aide Registry before submitting applications so WakeMed's clinical hiring team can verify your credentials immediately.
Target WakeMed's High-Volume Hiring Seasons
WakeMed posts Healthcare Assistant openings in cycles tied to patient census growth and staff turnover. Applications submitted in late summer and early winter tend to align with active unit expansions, giving you a better chance of reaching a hiring manager quickly.
Ask Directly About H-1B Filing Timelines
During the offer stage, ask WakeMed's HR contact when they would initiate an H-1B petition relative to the USCIS April 1 filing window. Healthcare Assistant roles can qualify under specialty occupation if your role requires a bachelor's in a relevant field, so confirm how they've structured past filings.
Browse Open Roles Through Migrate Mate
Filter Healthcare Assistant openings at WakeMed by visa type on Migrate Mate so you only apply to roles where sponsorship has been confirmed. This saves time and surfaces positions that match your specific authorization status before you invest in a full application.
Prepare for PERM-Based Green Card Conversations Early
If you're targeting long-term immigration, ask WakeMed recruiters whether the Healthcare Assistant role is structured to support EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship. PERM labor certification requires prevailing wage documentation through DOL, which takes months to initiate, so understanding their process at the offer stage matters.

Find Healthcare Assistant at WakeMed JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does WakeMed sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
WakeMed does sponsor H-1B visas, and Healthcare Assistant roles can qualify when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant clinical or health sciences field. The key variable is how the role is defined in the job description. Roles framed around basic patient care tasks without a degree requirement may not meet USCIS specialty occupation criteria, so reviewing the specific posting carefully before applying is essential.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at WakeMed?
WakeMed has sponsored H-1B, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for roles in its healthcare workforce. For Healthcare Assistants, F-1 OPT and TN are the most straightforward entry points for recent graduates and Canadian or Mexican nationals respectively. H-1B and employment-based Green Card pathways like EB-2 and EB-3 typically apply to candidates with bachelor's degrees or higher in qualifying fields.
What qualifications does WakeMed expect for Healthcare Assistant positions?
Most Healthcare Assistant openings at WakeMed require active CNA certification and placement on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry. Acute care or hospital-based clinical experience is preferred over long-term care or outpatient settings. Candidates with prior EMT certification, phlebotomy skills, or a healthcare-related bachelor's degree tend to be more competitive, and those qualifications can also strengthen a visa sponsorship case if H-1B or Green Card sponsorship becomes relevant.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at WakeMed?
Applications go through WakeMed's careers portal, where you can filter by department and job type. You can also browse Healthcare Assistant openings at WakeMed filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify roles where international candidates have a clear path. Once you apply, expect an initial HR screening followed by a unit-level clinical interview, often including a skills or scenario assessment.
How do I plan my timeline if I need WakeMed to file an H-1B petition for me?
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an April 1 filing start date, with employment beginning October 1 at the earliest. If you receive an offer from WakeMed, you and HR need to plan backward from that April window. F-1 OPT provides a bridge if your authorization extends far enough, but if your OPT expires before October 1, you may need cap-gap coverage or an alternative visa arrangement to maintain continuous work authorization.
