Get Your Credentials Evaluated Before Applying
If you trained outside the U.S., a credential evaluation from NACES-recognized service confirms your medical assistant qualification meets North Carolina standards. WakeMed hiring managers expect this documentation upfront for clinical support roles.
Target WakeMed's Outpatient Clinics Strategically
WakeMed operates numerous outpatient and specialty clinics alongside its main campuses. These sites post Medical Assistant openings frequently and often have faster hiring cycles than inpatient departments, giving you more entry points to pursue sponsorship.
Clarify Sponsorship Eligibility During the Screening Call
Ask the recruiter directly whether the specific posting is approved for visa sponsorship. WakeMed sponsors across multiple visa types, but individual requisitions vary, and confirming early prevents investing time in a position that won't support your work authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Medical Assistant Roles
Browse verified Medical Assistant openings at WakeMed filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. It surfaces roles that align with your specific work authorization, saving you time you'd otherwise spend manually screening postings across general job boards.

Find Medical Assistant at WakeMed JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does WakeMed sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Assistants?
Yes, WakeMed sponsors H-1B visas for Medical Assistant roles. Because the H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, your application will be stronger if the role demands specific clinical training tied to a relevant degree field. Confirm sponsorship availability for any specific posting with the recruiter early in the process, since not every requisition is pre-approved for H-1B filing.
How do I apply for Medical Assistant jobs at WakeMed?
Apply directly through WakeMed's careers portal, where postings specify location, department, and required certifications. Before applying, verify the role notes visa sponsorship eligibility or ask the recruiter. You can also browse WakeMed's open Medical Assistant positions filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which surfaces only roles aligned with your work authorization status.
Which visa types does WakeMed commonly sponsor for Medical Assistant roles?
WakeMed has a track record of sponsoring H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for clinical support roles. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates who later transition to H-1B sponsorship through WakeMed.
What qualifications does WakeMed expect for Medical Assistant positions?
WakeMed typically requires a Medical Assistant diploma or associate degree from an accredited program, along with CMA or RMA certification from a recognized body such as AAMA or AMT. Clinical experience in a hospital or outpatient setting strengthens your candidacy. If you trained internationally, a credential evaluation confirming equivalency to U.S. standards is expected before the offer stage.
How do I plan my timeline around WakeMed's visa sponsorship process?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN processing can happen at the border or port of entry within days. H-1B standard processing through USCIS takes three to five months, with premium processing available in 15 business days. If you're targeting an EB-3 Green Card through PERM, DOL recruitment and audit requirements add 12 to 18 months before USCIS adjudication begins. Align your application timing with your current authorization's expiration date.
