Overview
The Clinical Nurse is responsible for providing total comprehensive nursing to patients and their families through the implementation of a plan of care. The plan is based upon the patient's developmental and health care needs identified through the assessment of the patient's physical, psychological, socioeconomic status, and physician orders regarding care, treatment, and education. The Clinical Nurse understands the needs of the organization and supports the mission, values, and management of patient care services. The Clinical Nurse actively supports and incorporates ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, North Carolina Board of Nursing Practice Act, WakeMed's Division of Nursing Professional Practice model, and WakeMed's Patient & Family Centered Care (PFCC) model. The four key concepts of PFCC are: Dignity and Respect = Listen to and honor patient and family perspectives and choices; Information Sharing = Communicate and share complete and unbiased information with patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful; Participation = Patients and families are encouraged and supported in participating in care and decision-making at the level they choose; Collaboration = Patients and families and the Clinical Nurse collaborate in the delivery of care.

Tips for Finding Clinical Medical Assistant Jobs at WakeMed
Verify Your Clinical Credentials Before Applying
WakeMed requires Clinical Medical Assistants to hold a recognized certification such as CMA (AAMA) or RMA. Confirm your credential is accepted by North Carolina employer standards before submitting applications, since uncertified candidates are rarely advanced to sponsorship conversations.
Target WakeMed's High-Volume Hiring Departments
WakeMed posts Clinical Medical Assistant openings across outpatient clinics, specialty practices, and urgent care sites. Applying to outpatient and physician practice roles typically yields faster hiring cycles than inpatient units, giving you more runway to initiate sponsorship paperwork before your OPT or status expires.
Align Your OPT Start Date With WakeMed's Onboarding Timeline
Healthcare onboarding at WakeMed includes background checks, health screenings, and credential verification, which can take four to six weeks. Activate your OPT only after you have a firm start date confirmed to avoid burning work authorization days before your first shift.
Understand How PERM Labor Certification Affects Your Timeline
If WakeMed pursues an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card for you, DOL requires a PERM labor certification before USCIS can adjudicate your immigrant petition. This process typically adds six to twelve months to your overall timeline, so raise the conversation with HR well before your nonimmigrant status requires renewal.
Ask HR Directly About TN Visa Eligibility
Canadian and Mexican candidates holding clinical credentials that map to a qualifying TN occupation should ask WakeMed's HR team whether a TN is viable before defaulting to H-1B. TN status has no annual cap and no lottery, making it a faster path for eligible Clinical Medical Assistants.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open Roles Efficiently
Browsing every hospital system's career portal individually is slow and inconsistent. Use Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Medical Assistant openings at WakeMed by visa sponsorship type, so you can focus your applications on roles where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than guessing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WakeMed sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Medical Assistants?
Yes, WakeMed has sponsored H-1B visas for clinical roles including Clinical Medical Assistants. Because H-1B petitions for this role require demonstrating specialty occupation status, your application is stronger when the position clearly requires a specific clinical degree or certification. Roles tied to physician practice specialties tend to meet this bar more readily than general outpatient positions.
How do I apply for Clinical Medical Assistant jobs at WakeMed?
Applications go through WakeMed's careers portal, where you can filter by department and location. To improve your chances, tailor your resume to highlight clinical certification, hands-on patient care experience, and any EHR system proficiency WakeMed uses. If you need visa sponsorship, flag that during the recruiter screening call rather than waiting for an offer stage conversation.
Which visa types does WakeMed commonly use for Clinical Medical Assistant roles?
WakeMed sponsors H-1B and employment-based Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for clinical staff. F-1 OPT and CPT are used during student or post-graduation training periods. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican candidates whose clinical credentials map to an eligible USMCA occupation category. The right visa depends on your nationality, credential level, and how long you need authorization.
What qualifications does WakeMed expect for Clinical Medical Assistant positions?
WakeMed typically requires a nationally recognized medical assistant certification such as CMA (AAMA) or RMA, along with hands-on clinical experience in phlebotomy, vital signs, and EHR documentation. Some specialty clinic roles also expect familiarity with specific procedures relevant to that department. North Carolina does not license medical assistants at the state level, so national certification is the primary credential benchmark.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining WakeMed as a Clinical Medical Assistant?
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS standard processing currently runs three to six months after the April lottery selection, with premium processing available to reduce adjudication to roughly 15 business days. For Green Card pathways, PERM labor certification through DOL adds significant time before USCIS steps begin.
