Align Your Credentials to U.S. Standards
If your degree was issued outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applying. WKU hiring committees assess foreign qualifications against U.S. equivalency, and an official evaluation removes ambiguity from your application early.
Target Departments With Active Faculty Searches
WKU posts Teaching openings by department, and sponsorship decisions are made at that level. Identify departments with recurring or multi-year searches, since those units are more likely to have budget allocated for the full visa sponsorship cycle.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Ask HR directly whether the offer includes H-1B filing fees and legal costs, or only the petition itself. Universities vary on what they cover, and knowing this before you accept prevents surprises when USCIS fees become due.
Browse Teaching Openings Through Migrate Mate
Filtering for sponsored Teaching roles at universities takes time if you're searching manually. Use Migrate Mate to find WKU Teaching positions that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're only spending time on applications where your immigration status is already a fit.

Find Teaching at Western Kentucky University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Western Kentucky University sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, Western Kentucky University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Teaching positions. University employers are cap-exempt, meaning WKU can file H-1B petitions year-round without waiting for the annual lottery. Teaching roles that require a specialty degree field and meet USCIS specialty occupation criteria are eligible. Your department and the nature of the role both factor into whether sponsorship is extended.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Western Kentucky University?
Teaching positions at WKU are posted on the university's official careers portal, organized by college and department. Applications typically require a cover letter, CV, teaching statement, and letters of recommendation. You can also browse WKU Teaching roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which saves time if you need to confirm sponsorship availability before investing in a full application.
Which visa types does Western Kentucky University commonly use for Teaching positions?
WKU sponsors H-1B visas for most Teaching hires requiring a specialty degree. For longer-term or tenure-track faculty, the university may also pursue EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process with the DOL. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for eligible students moving into Teaching assistant or early-career instructional roles.
What qualifications are expected for Teaching roles at Western Kentucky University?
Most Teaching positions at WKU require at minimum a master's degree in a relevant field, with doctoral credentials expected for tenure-track faculty. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level strengthens your application considerably. If your degree was earned outside the U.S., a NACES-approved credential evaluation is strongly recommended before applying, as WKU committees assess foreign qualifications for U.S. equivalency during the review process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Teaching role at Western Kentucky University?
For H-1B sponsorship, WKU must file before your intended start date, with USCIS standard processing taking three to six months. Because WKU is a cap-exempt employer, filings can happen at any point in the year. For EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship, the full PERM and petition process with DOL and USCIS can span one to three years depending on your priority date and country of chargeability.
