INTRODUCTION
WindBorne is supercharging weather forecasts with a unique proprietary data source: a global constellation of next-generation smart weather balloons targeting the most critical atmospheric data. We design, manufacture, and operate our own balloons, using the data they collect to generate hyper-accurate forecasts and otherwise unattainable weather intelligence. Together, we call this our Planetary Nervous System.
WindBorne's Product Team is tasked with delivering the value of our Planetary Nervous System to humanity. We combine technology capabilities from all layers of the company to build critical tools that help humanity mitigate the most destructive effects of climate change.
We're hiring a Growth Lead to own go-to-market execution for our flagship agentic weather product, as we push toward product-market fit and rapid scaling. You'll be the first dedicated business hire on this product, responsible for turning early beachhead traction into a flywheel of growth – from sharpening ICP positioning to building the PLG motion & customer acquisition mechanisms that scale us from early adopters to thousands of satisfied customers.
In this role, you will also have the unique opportunity to learn how the world really works. Weather deeply impacts a multitude of critical industries, and an even wider range of professions. You will be on the front lines of customer discovery, peeling back the layers of modern society & global infrastructure to identify hidden hair-on-fire problems and scope opportunities for WindBorne.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What you'll do:
- Drive top-of-funnel growth: cold outreach, design-partner recruiting, and viral experimentation
- Own customer acquisition and retention – get hands-on with engagement analytics and talk directly to customers to evaluate satisfaction
- Design viral features and implement product-led-growth loops
- Run monetization experiments to prove out pricing models and willingness-to-pay
- Partner closely with product and eng as one of our first GTM hires
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
What we're looking for:
- 2+ years in a 0-to-1 software startup, ideally owning a self-serve or bottoms-up customer acquisition motion end-to-end (internship experience counts). Bonus if you've also worked on a product after it achieved PMF and can describe what changed.
- You've grown something inside a community, not just around it. You've built engagement in an online forum, industry organization, email list, or subreddit and converted this traction into product engagement.
- Hands-on with product analytics – you're familiar with tools like HotJar/PostHog/Mixpanel, and have written SQL queries yourself instead of requesting an engineer-built dashboard.
- You enjoy shipping things: landing pages, email campaigns, referral mechanics, scrappy prototypes. Bonus if you've built with LLM APIs.
- Experience running pricing experiments – A/B testing things like trial length, paywall placement, usage vs. subscription, willingness-to-pay research. Bonus if you've sold to owner-operators or micro-businesses where the buyer is the operator.
- Comfortable with cold, unglamorous recruiting: social media DMs, outbound emails, cold-calling, door-to-door prospecting.
- A hands-on executor who thinks big – you’re interested in building a business, not just a product, and potentially see this role as a step towards founding your own company someday.
- Deep passion for climate, and genuine curiosity about the weather.

Target technical and research roles
WindBorne Systems operates in atmospheric science and data collection, so candidates with backgrounds in meteorology, aerospace engineering, software engineering, or remote sensing are best positioned for sponsored roles. Align your application to their core research mission.
Lead with H-1B eligibility early
WindBorne Systems has sponsored H-1B visas and understands the process. Mention your visa status and H-1B eligibility clearly in your cover letter and recruiter conversations, it signals that you know what sponsorship involves and reduces friction.
Highlight OPT or CPT as a bridge
WindBorne Systems has sponsored F-1 OPT and CPT, so if you're currently on a student visa, pursuing an internship or entry-level role through OPT is a credible path to longer-term H-1B sponsorship with this employer.
Demonstrate deep domain expertise
At a specialized science and research company like WindBorne Systems, generalist applicants rarely get sponsored. The stronger your expertise in a specific technical area tied to their work, the more compelling the case for sponsorship becomes.
Search verified sponsors before applying broadly
Not every job listing signals real sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus your energy on employers like WindBorne Systems who have actually filed for work visas.
Engage early and ask directly about sponsorship
WindBorne Systems is a smaller research-focused company, so hiring decisions tend to be personal. Reaching out directly to their team or asking clearly about sponsorship during early conversations is more effective than waiting until late in the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WindBorne Systems sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, WindBorne Systems sponsors H-1B visas. The company has a track record of filing H-1B petitions, primarily for technical and research-oriented roles. If you're an international candidate with a specialty occupation background in areas like atmospheric science, engineering, or software development, WindBorne Systems is worth pursuing as a prospective sponsor.
What visa types does WindBorne Systems sponsor?
WindBorne Systems sponsors H-1B visas as well as F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for students, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles, and J-1 visas for exchange visitors. This range of visa types suggests the company is experienced working with international candidates across different stages of their careers and immigration journeys.
Which roles at WindBorne Systems are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at WindBorne Systems is concentrated in technical and research roles. Given the company's focus on atmospheric data and weather intelligence, roles in software engineering, data science, aerospace or mechanical engineering, and atmospheric research are most likely to qualify. Specialty occupation alignment is essential for H-1B eligibility, so niche technical expertise strengthens your case significantly.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at WindBorne Systems?
The most reliable way is to use Migrate Mate, which aggregates job listings from verified visa sponsors and lets you filter specifically by sponsorship history and visa type. This saves you from applying to listings where sponsorship is uncertain. You can search for WindBorne Systems directly and browse any roles they currently have open for international candidates.
How do I approach the application timeline when targeting WindBorne Systems for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 each year for an October 1 start date, so timing your offer and onboarding process matters. Aim to have an offer in place by late February or early March at the latest. If you're currently on F-1 OPT or CPT, starting at WindBorne Systems in that status and transitioning to H-1B is a practical and commonly used path.
