Align your credentials to WSP's practice areas
WSP's Program Specialist roles span infrastructure, environmental consulting, and advisory services. Frame your degree and project coordination experience around the specific practice area you're targeting, because sponsorship decisions are tied to specialty occupation fit for that business unit.
Research open roles by WSP office location
WSP files Labor Condition Applications tied to specific worksites, so the office you're hired into affects your prevailing wage tier. Roles in major metro offices often carry stronger precedent for sponsorship approvals than smaller regional locations.
Clarify sponsorship timing before your first interview
Ask WSP's recruiter directly whether the role is open to candidates requiring visa sponsorship now, not after an offer. Consulting firms sometimes post roles broadly but restrict sponsorship eligibility to later hiring stages, which wastes time on both sides.
Prepare for WSP's structured hiring pipeline
WSP uses a multi-round process for Program Specialist roles that often includes a competency-based interview focused on program governance and client delivery. Have documented examples ready that demonstrate cross-functional coordination on long-duration projects, since that's the core of what this function requires.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for WSP Program Specialist openings
Searching for roles that explicitly support your visa category at a large firm like WSP takes time. Migrate Mate lets you filter Program Specialist listings by visa type so you can confirm sponsorship availability before applying.
Understand how F-1 OPT transitions to H-1B at WSP
If you're on F-1 OPT, WSP can employ you through your OPT period and file for H-1B sponsorship in the April lottery. The cap-subject H-1B has an annual registration window, so time your graduation and OPT start date to maximize the number of lottery cycles you're eligible for before your authorization expires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Program Specialists?
Yes, WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Program Specialist roles. The position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires a degree in a specific field such as engineering, environmental science, business, or a related discipline. WSP's legal and HR teams handle the H-1B petition process, including the Labor Condition Application filed with the DOL, once an offer is extended.
Which visa types does WSP commonly sponsor for Program Specialist roles?
WSP sponsors several visa categories for Program Specialists, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT during studies or post-graduation training periods. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, WSP also has a track record with EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does WSP expect for a Program Specialist position?
WSP typically looks for a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, project management, environmental science, or business administration. Beyond the degree, they expect demonstrated experience managing program schedules, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and handling client deliverables. In consulting environments like WSP, candidates who can show experience on large infrastructure or advisory engagements stand out in the hiring process.
How do I apply for Program Specialist jobs at WSP?
You can browse and apply for Program Specialist openings directly through WSP's careers portal. To find roles that explicitly support your visa category, Migrate Mate filters WSP listings by visa type so you can focus your applications on positions where sponsorship is confirmed. Before applying, verify that the specific office location aligns with your target practice area, since WSP hires Program Specialists across multiple distinct business lines.
How long does it take for WSP to process visa sponsorship after an offer?
The timeline depends on which visa category applies to your situation. For H-1B, WSP must submit a registration in the April lottery, and if selected, file the petition for an October 1 start date. For E-3 and TN visas, the process moves faster, typically within a few weeks of offer acceptance, since these don't have a lottery and can be processed at a U.S. consulate or port of entry. USCIS premium processing is sometimes available to shorten adjudication times for H-1B petitions.
